Vanessa stepped back to allow them room to get through the door, side by side, then followed, letting the door close with a slam. "Get to the elevator, then remove those cuffs," she told Jaxson in a low whisper.
Jaxson nodded, understanding that it wouldn't be safe to do it right now, right here by the door should Mythe come out. "Can you walk?" He asked Artemis, noting her shakiness as he took hold of her arms.

"I.. I don't know." Artemis barely breathed in complete honesty. Her will was enough to give her the strength to make it through the door, but the elevator remained out of her reach when her body gave up on her. "I can 't." Was all she able to express, even the small effort causing her to choke to form the words. She was angry at herself for her own failure, but her quivering legs gave her no strength to move further.

Jaxson swiftly moved to catch her, supporting her by the arms as best he could. The cuffs weren't helping any. He managed to get her a few feet nearer the elevator before his awkward hold gave and he had to let her collapse. "Here," he fumbled for the key and unlocked the handcuffs, then tossed them to Vanessa who stood by.
"Can you put your arms around our shoulders? Just till we reach the elevator?" Vanessa asked, stooping down so she was face to face with Artemis.

Artemis struggled the best she could, even as Jaxson moved her closer to the elevator. Her muscles ached increasingly as her arms, which were held behind her back with handcuffs, had weight thrust upon them as Jaxson supported her. Falling to the floor with a grunt, shaken by how her present pain over exaggerated they way she hit the ground, she slowly lifted her eyes to look at the two. "I think so." She strained.

Jaxson went to Artemis' side to help her up, but Vanessa interjected. "You know what, I've got a better idea. Pick her up, Jaxson. We don't have much time and I need to get something in her soon," she said hastily as she stood and headed for the elevator, open cuffs and key in hand.
Jaxson looked alarmed; he hadn't realized how bad exactly the girl's situation was till Vanessa said that. "Okay then," he said under his breath. He scooped Artemis up easily enough, she was so light.

Artemis was thankful to be carried, it gave her a chance to focus completely on breathing, which had become even more difficult as her throat had swelled to its complete capacity over the last few minutes. She breathed with great difficulty and little relief.

Vanessa put her hand to the elevator panel, and when it opened, she stepped inside the doorway to keep it open till the two arrived. Her concern was growing by the second for Artemis. Dr. Mythe had given her a huge dose of the venom, certainly enough to kill her if medicine wasn't given to her soon. Even though she was only their prisoner, she held key information and her dying would be of no help to anyone.

Jaxson tried to keep an even pace to avoid jolting Artemis' pained body. He stepped inside the elevator but Vanessa stayed put. "As soon as you get down there, you get her to her cell and lying down," Vanessa snapped. "I'll be down soon with something for her," she explained, then stepped out, letting the doors close. Wasting no time, she immediately set off towards her office.

Using his elbow, Jaxson selected the floor level and they began to descend.

Artemis' eyes began to roll back into her head with the unbearable pain of not being able to breath. She knew she would soon die, but she was scared.

Jaxson waited impatiently for the elevator to stop. As soon as the doors opened, he hurried through and down the hall, ignoring the other prisoner's stares.
------
Vanessa shoved the key into the lock on her door and tried to turn, but it refused to give. After trying once more, she realized the key in hand was the one Jaxson had thrown at her earlier; her own key was in her pocket. She found it quickly and unlocked her door, then immediately set about searching for the correct medicines. It would of been much easier and faster to have just brought Artemis to her office, rather than wasting time going down a level, but it was too late for regretting that.

(Garrrrrrrrr, you home yet??)

"I. can't.. breath..." The words were nearly unaudiable as Artemis' eyes fell closed. Struggling to stay awake, Artemis' skin grew paler by the second.

Entering the open cell, Jaxson kneeled and set her down gently on the cot. "You're going to be fine, everything will be fine," he said calmly. He stood up and went to the doorway, watching and waiting for Vanessa to return.
---------
Vanessa, meanwhile, continued finding what she needed in the immediate. She slammed the drawer of syringes shut and grabbed a packet of needles from an open bin on the counter, then, grabbing the bottles she had set out on her desk, hurried out of the room and to the elevator.

Every second felt like hours as Vanessa waited for the ding that would indicate she was at level 01. Finally, the doors opened and she hurried out, down the hall, and along a corridor of cells. She had glimpsed the file when it first came through so she knew which cell Artemis would be in.
