At Aya's request Devine searched for a piece of paper and pen. He hesitated a moment before writing his phone number down. He hoped she would not betray him. Handing her the note, he looked to her more warmly. "You don't know where you are, would you like me to help you out of the alleyway?"Aya stood outside and listened to one of the longer voicemails she had received from a coworker; the one she had told to fill in for her.
As she listened, her concerns grew. Not only did he sound rather grave and disappointed, which was very different from his usual tone, but he was also talking about how a surgery went wrong-And immediately Aya called him back before she listened to anything else.
Her call was quickly picked up, and she gave a slight sigh of relief.
"Okay, I didn't listen to the entire voicemail. But I heard that a surgery went wrong, and I'd like to know what happened." She said quickly, wanting an explanation. When somebody dies in a surgery in your hospital, sometimes that could have complications. People weren't fond of you accidentally killing their family members.
"Yes, well, I just preformed a surgery on Mr. Forrest. He was an old man, with a small expectation of surviving without damage. It was a large tumor, on the frontal lobe. It was likely that he wouldn't be able to function after the surgery.
I made a quick change to say that I was the doctor designated to preform the surgery on Mr. Forrest, but the records don't have that. They say that you were still the designated surgeon, and after there were complications in the surgery, the family is blaming you, Aya. Since we can't prove much with our records, we could really be in some trouble if they sue...Which they want to."
Aya cursed. This was such a terrible situation, and she knew how sue-happy people could get.
"Alright, I'll be right there. Gah, I'm so stupid!" She hung up the phone and calmly walked back inside, but she was truthfully upset. What if this poor old man dying was pretty much her fault?
"There's an emergency at work," Aya told Devine simply once she approached him, but with an agitated voice, "I need to go, and then I'll probably just head over to my house. Just in case I have the time to search for the man you're looking for, and I find anything, could I have your number so I can call you?"
