Yeah, I thought that too... Only now I have two more broodies. One is sitting on seven and the other on three fakes. DH (who vehemently does NOT think we need more chickens (He may be right about that 🤦‍♀️) says it's time to give the poor pathetic thing some real eggs. So... I'm just gonna give her some of the seven if they all look good. Otherwise she can have whatever I collect today, within reason. I'll put the little dear in the broody coop so something doesn't eat her. Hopefully she'll accept her new digs. She's been nesting all day in a canvas tarp & I've been toting her to her flock's tractor in the evening so she can eat and sleep in safety.
Got her situated. The eggs look like they're all started. It's only four days and wasn't quite dark yet, but they all had that little something to make me think they're sparked. 🙏 Both these girls are so sweet. I held the one while I candled, then set her back down in front of her nest. While she was easing her way back in, I stole three eggs. Felt kind of guilty, but she isn't going to know and this is her first time--I don't want her overwhelmed.

The other girl is barely old enough to be laying. She started early at around fourteen or fifteen weeks and a few weeks in, started going all fluffy & soft, settled in and barely moved at all. She rode along with me, meek and quiet in the crook of my arm, watching the eggs in my straw-lined pail the whole way. I tucked them into a hollow of nesting material in the broody coop. She climbed in and settled down on them. Sometimes I just want to kiss these precious, yearning little mommas.

Update: I put another egg in the incubator yesterday. I couldn't help it since it was a pure Glw x GLW. I know the it's one day behind but after the days run out, I'll just reset it. Only a few hours between the eggs in there isn't that much of a difference though. Unless it is and someone can tell me otherwise.
I don’t even use my day counter on my incubator. One of mine has been running straight for 9 months 😂
