šŸšŸ’—Our Backyard Beekeeping Journey!šŸ’—šŸ

No hive beetles? That’s nice! That’s one major con to beekeeping in the south. I almost lost a colony last year to hive beetles. Thankfully, I checked the hive and caught it before it was too late. That was my long hive experiment. I stopped just short of torching it after I rescued my bees.

No hive beetles here.

It's nice not having to worry about them.
Did you like the Long Langstroth?

I did. The problem was that I didn’t build it tight enough so bees AND hive beetles could get into the void space on the other side of the follower board. The bees couldn’t manage them and the beetle numbers exploded. I want to revisit it but that will be a complete new build.

We've been looking at them. I really would like to build one at some point.
Good to know about making sure you can keep insects out.

I have one double nuc that needs to be fed. An easy way is fondant in a ziploc bag with a hole cut in it over the inner cover and a shim. You can feed them all winter if nessasary.

I like that. I'm hoping to set up a double Nuc next spring.
