🐝💗Our Backyard Beekeeping Journey!💗🐝

Just finished inspecting hive #2 & the swarm hive. They both look really strong. Lots of bees, eggs, larvae, pollen and lots of capped brood. The girls are still bringing in pollen and probably some nectar. But they are definitely sucking down the syrup.

The next 15 days we will still have daytime temps in the 60's and nights in the 40's. If it's a normal transition, it will drop and start freezing near the end of the month. So hopefully we'll have at least 3 weeks of above freezing temps.

Removed the thymol blocks from the Wyoming Italian hive. Just an impression but the hive seems healthier at this time than before the treatment.
That's good news.
I need to look into using thymol blocks.
Stealing honey from the Golden West hive today.
You're stealing honey or that hive is being robbed?

Frost advisory tonight, not concerned as their heat can handle it, gallon of syrup on each hive this afternoon. Nor' Easter blowing in Saturday evening into Tuesday morning. Will replenish any syrup late as I can Saturday before the big blow. Queens are still laying to my surprise, lots of capped brood, larvae and eggs. Finished up jarring honey. Final tally 97 lbs not counting give aways and the gallon we sold. Average yr for our 2 hives. Hopefully mild winter and 3 hives next spring plus another split. Fingers crossed.

What a great year for you!

I think we will be having a mild winter... so they say anyways. Hope we can get all 3 through the winter. That's a hope that I have for all of us.

We combined two hives today. We just didn't like how they were looking. The new queen in hive #1 was laying very spotty, the pattern just wasn't good or strong. I only saw a few eggs and not much larvae. 🙁 We added them to the swarm hive. Next year we will probably replace all of our queens at some point.

We still have 2 hives to inspect. We wanted to let the 2 we combined settle down a bit. Hopefully the next 2 look good. If not we will combine them and go into winter with only 2 hives.

Didn't get much in the way of pictures today.

Farmer's Almanac says we will have a harsh? bad? snowy? winter.

Both our hives have looked strong when we've peaked inside. I think I'll have time to give them some more syrup before it gets too cold.
I'm glad to hear they are looking strong.

I'm sure you will always have more snow and colder weather than we will. Hopefully it's not as bad for you like they're saying and I hope it's mild for us, since that's what it's saying for our area. Can we have it to order please...lol
