Speaking of fortune, what do you get for your honey?

I was hoping we'd have some to sell, but not this year. Spring harvest (our very first, yay!) was about 30 pounds, but the second was only about 12.

Thinking we'd get more the second harvest, we gave away half of our first. Ok, neighborly goodwill is worth a lot.

Hubby just likes some honey on his toast every now and then. I want honey to bake with, to cook with, to brew kombucha with...

Average here for local is $10 a pound depending on demographics. Have seen it for $12. You are right, give aways are a good thing but DW has to keep me in check. Says I would sell the farm for a tale of woe.

those of you who run 9 frames in a 10 frame box how much of an increase do you average per medium deep?

Sorry, I never actually measured the difference but it is a noticable increase.

DW is happy, me not so much. Dropped of 48 lbs of honey to the vender yesterday on our way out of town. Before we got a mile out of town vender called DW and said had just sold two jars and this was about 10:00AM the day before the annual festival starts! W informed me that we will be supplying honey from May through October. This is what happens when two women put their heads together. I got back into bees to relax! All reserves are gone and now into our fall stock. I was planning on one split in the spring but now looking at least two depending on what honey we have left from the festival. Now that I'm done whining over good fortune, those of you who run 9 frames in a 10 frame box how much of an increase do you average per medium deep?

This (retirement) is why I don't want to start selling it...lol. I'm glad you have a good market.

Hopefully next season will be much better for you. We've given away almost 5 gallons.
I have honey every morning in my tea. Love it on French toast or a slice of sourdough. I don't do as much baking as I used to. But, definitely plan on using it to replace sugar wherever I can.

Don't know, it has temporarily stopped at 1" and is now melting.

Remember that you can only do this with frames that have fully drawn combs.

I don't think we'll be getting snow any time soon. We do need a good snow pack in the mountains. One of the local ski resorts just got 10", so that's good and I hope it continues like that.
