🐣🐄Black Copper Marans and Whiting True Blues. Lots of videosšŸŽ„

Great pics.. the sunlight really pops all his colors and she's beautiful. I think I see just a hint of copper on her, she has a lovely tail also.
Thanks! I like her body type and the beetle shine on her feathers . I’ve read that the SOP says they have to have bay colored eyes. She has these greenish light melon colored eyes. She’s one of the few chickens that jumps up in my lap every day.

Edit: she just jumped a gave me a good picture of her eye.

Here’s some of the chicks foraging by the coop. I have atleast 5 males. Some of the dark ones are getting silver on their hackles. I’ll need to start finding homes for the cockerels real soon.

Easter egger barnyard mixes sure are trickier to tell gender than the pure breeds.
I hope this one is a pullet. It doesn’t have much of a comb or wattles. I’m thinking only pullets would have this wild type pattern. No color to the comb, but the skin color is gray. The legs are thick and the red colored shoulders throws me off.
Any guesses?

This one with the small crest is super sweet. She’ll come sit with me and preen and check me out with her big brown eyes. She does not have black skin though.

Here’s the BCM cockerel playing jungle games.

Since you asked for guesses, I will guess male, but I am not very confident of that. So I'll be waiting to learn what it really is.

This chicks face has darkened alot since it was small. I don’t think it’s a cockerel, but I’m on the fence about 2 or 3 of these dark fibro chicks with the small combs and beards.

One of the marans has really lightened up on the egg color. It’s still a beautiful shade with speckles.

I haven’t found where this one is laying? I’m thinking of putting an airtag on a hen saddle and track her

I will be curious to see how it develops. The patchy coloring, with red feathers coming in, is making me think cockerel. But that head sure looks female, with small comb and wattles. Pea combs and the associated small wattles make it hard to tell, so I usually look for red color as a confirmation-- and the fibro is messing me up there!

It's interesting to see how just a few traits can make it so much harder to sex the chicks!

Pretty!

:lau
I never thought of that before, but it sounds like it might really work for finding hidden nests!

Pretty cool looking bird.

How long has she been laying now? If you tracked her first 20-30 eggs, this will give you an idea of her average true egg color that she will lay at the beginning of her cycle, and then of course they fade in color towards the end as she runs out of paint in the booth.

You probably know this already... Commenting just in case or for others who stumble in šŸ‘

Beautiful eggs regardless....
