I had an egg that did not show many signs of surviving. Days passed since the time of hatching and we poked a hole in the egg because I assumed it was dead. But it was alive, breathing. I felt so bad because then it died. That is an example of why you should wait.


How did she walk? I assume she would have to use her wing to support her legless side?

Just hopped on one foot. She did sit a lot instead of trying to stand on one foot though.

Oh, poor thing! That looks hard! I have a rooster with a deformed leg that he is unable to walk on, and he just hops so I should have guessed it would be the same for any other chicken with only one working leg.

I did not feel bad for her. You don't know how many times she would escape and I'd chase her around and around and around not being able to catch her.
She would just laugh and laugh at me.

I had one I named ilene. She was older when she lost it but lived several years after just fine. She did quit laying and never laid an egg after.
A couple years ago I had another that was young. It never even slowed her down. I know because I could never catch her when she escaped.

That is good to hear! I know that there are birds that can definitely go with 1 leg

So far no signs of any eggs rotting. I am going to be doing my next candling on Wednesday. If any of the eggs have no formation in them by that day, they will be counted as duds.
