๐Ÿ™ PLEASE HELP ๐Ÿ™ What the heck am I? โค๏ธ ๐Ÿ’™ ๐Ÿ” ๐Ÿฅ

This rooster does appear to be a splash, probably one that would have black copper parentage, but there is something else going on with him. The biggest quandary is that your pullet appears to have no blue in the posted pictures. Is the lighting different? Also, if he were simply a blue splash hiding black copper, then she should be a solid blue pullet. She does look to be from a cream legbar mother, just based on body type, crest... but where does her pattern come from? There are a lot of questions.

This is what I cannot understand, the only boy in there is Cluck stock. She has the hairy feet of a marans and the crest, birth colours etc of a legbar, then this amazing pattern popped up. However,

Thank you. I literally do not understand. Some of what I read said blue splash could be anything from light blue to grey to black splashes but others say that is not the case.
I don't know if this helps or further complicated things however pics A and B are the father (Cluck stock) as a chick and his dark brown Marans egg, next pic is him now. He also sired 2 blue Marans when bred back to a black copper Marans as expected.

However, we have just had 3 chicks hatch. 2 from Cluck stock (Blue splash Marans?) and Gingernut and 1 (Chipmunk chick in pics) from seperate parents in seperate pen.

Gingernut (Pic 4) the mother is clearly a mix as she looks entirely like an ISA Brown as u can see, however she lays blue eggs.

These 2 babies could literally not look more different to each other.

1 chick is almost entirely yellow with 2 dark spots on bum and 1 on head, this chick has feathered feet as you can see. Appears to have pink skin, no crown.

2 chick is dark grey, has light blonde/ash grey areas, light blonde tummy and underside. Slate grey legs and tops of feet, light pink underneath, clean legs and very dark beak. Has a tiny copper orange splash next to eye as circled in 1 pic!

Does this help at all with Cluck stocks genetics? Breeder says he is pure Marans, she does also have black copper Marans. He came out of a very dark Marans egg as you can see. Also, is it normal to have 2 chicks look so incredibly different from the exact same parents?

Thank you so much h for any help at all! โค๏ธ

Perhaps Gingernut has some legbar parentage. It seems a long shot though, I just don't see how that pullet has no blue. If Gingernut is a cross, could explain some things, but not the lack of blue. A splash will always throw blue or splash chicks. The pattern should be a blue lacing, and it appears black, too black, to be a dark blue, or maybe I am reading it wrong. Since my experience is pretty much limited to a few specific breeds, I can tell you that that pattern is not one generally found in any of the marans colors and definately not the cream legbar pattern. She carries the body type typical of legbars, which also share a common body type to the Mediterranean breed types, more or less, like leghorns, minorcas, white faced black spanish, ect, even polish have the leaner frame as well. Perhaps we should widen the scope of potential breeds for your mixed girl, but the puzzle of where the blue went still remains. I am not sure where to go on THAT one.

oooo maybe an appenzeller spitzhaben, but that girl Gingernut really does look like an isa brown, just a wild puzzle.
Generally, you get a lot of body type from the dam side, and she looks like a pretty typical brown hen. I still lean towards the legbar mother, just based on that. Just where does that color come from? And where did the blue go?

Okay, I am extremely lost. I replied in your other thread too. Do you only own one rooster? Your silver offspring has willow legs. A pure Marans would be complete for white skinโ€ฆ. He must carry yellow skin if heโ€™s the fatherโ€ฆ To complicate it more, if heโ€™s producing blue offspring he must carry blue if the mothers were blackโ€ฆ. I almost wonder if heโ€™s a mixed breed and is dominant white over some sort of blue pattern with leakageโ€ฆ. Are you absolutely certain heโ€™s the father??

Soo - here's another thought & question.

Did the breeder you got him (or hatching eggs) from have White Marans stock? Are White Marans dominant white?

He sort of reminds me of Ermine Ameraucana.. Which are produced by crossing dominant white stock with black stock.

Sort of, because his feathers are colored weird for both an Ermine pattern & a Splash pattern. I've not owned a Splash Copper Marans. Just Blue & Black coppers & had not started breeding them before I sold my flock. The Blue Copper pullet didn't have a copper "neckband", just mostly darker blue. Edit to add a pic of her.

& the 2 Black Copper pullets showing thier "copper". Not sure which doesn't show her Copper while standing next to cockerel above.

Still, the question then becomes - where did the pattern on white chick come from (Cruella?)?

**********

I have owned Splash Ameraucana - each feather was a solid color. The many white ones were solid white, the blue feathers (grey) were varying shades from light to dark & a few black ones (solid colored, but very, very few).

I believe this one is a pullet, not a cockerel as I marked... the feathers are different color as is the beak. Why/how I used zip ties same colors as cockerel, not sure. Looks like I did same w/ a blue cockel & pullet as well, from my photos...

This last pic shows a splash Ameraucana 2nd from left in the back. It is the fella I didn't have good pics of as a baby. The blue/pink banded Splash & the black cockerels were sparring on a terrible hot day in August. Later, both birds passed - heat stroke? No other cockerels I've had sparred/fought like that & later passed, so...
