1 banty vs. 22 full sized hens of various breeds (including "giant" breeds).

When I first got my chickens, I had 24 LF and 2 banties. one of the bantams was a rooster, Gladiator and the other was a little hen named Dorcas Galen. Besides the fact that the Gladiator was not allowed to breed, he was fine. My little Dorcas on the other hand, was pecked and chased around. I felt awful for her, so I fixed up a smaller coop for her and bought some bantam chicks. I now have 10 bantams in the smaller coop and Gladiator and Dorcas have never been happier. :)

That is not the case always the girls are young still, doubt that will even happen.Trowing up together they can establish an order.

MrsM74,how old is the chick?I did this with a four month old and threw her in exactly within a day or so with all of my old hens and she had absolutely no issue. One fight and everything was done.
I got them all as brand new chicks and they have lived together peacefully for the last 4 weeks. When you get a free exotic chick with your order, they don't tell you what it is. I noticed she was a little smaller as a brand new chick, but her size is more noticeable now and the markings are that of a Silver Seabright (and she has grey legs). I don't know for sure that is what she is. She will go in a coop with her 12 companions she has been raised with, with two brown leghorns. Later, if all is well, I will integrate our 6 other hens, who are 1 year old. They have a large coop and run (40x50) and will also free range part of the day.

Ultimately if she is being picked on, I will separate her and find her a new home. I just wanted advice from people who have been there to see if I can know what to expect. My friend has three bantys she raised with 5 full size pullets, then added them to her established flock of full sized birds. They all get along ok but they free range all day and have plenty of places to hide. The full sized hens they were raised for protect them to a certain degree. I wasn't sure if her situation was unique or not.

Can you post a pic of her? Sebrights are not exotic, they are very common. Maybe you were given some other breed with silver lacing? Is she really tiny? Here's ours at 5 months w the brown leghorns who are the same age. Exotic or not, I think Sebrights are marvelous. Ours has laid 8 tiny eggs in the past 8 days......

I have looked through all their chicks that were hatched at the same time, and the only ones with grey legs with the same silver and yellow stripes on the back were the Seabrights, but who knows for sure? The Seabrights were the closest thing I could find with any photos, both at the Hatchery and google. There is a slim possibility that it could be a True Blue, but I don't know if those are exotic either. Those are the only other breed I can find that has grey legs that could resemble this. The chick is about 1/2 to 2/3 the size of the other pullets. I am not sure how exotic their free chicks really are, or if it is just a fancy way of saying they are giving you a free chick they have in excess at the time ;).

If she is getting picked on I will either make her a protected areas within the coop or find her a new home. Thank you for your input :).
