Okay everyone so a lady near me hatched this chick yesterday in her incubator for her class and she came to me for help! She brought the chick over and it seems fairly healthy! It wants to drink and eat and is really lively -just can’t seem to get out of this position. (See picture below). The left leg you can bend but the right doesn’t seem to bend at all. Help please! It really seems like it wants to live and I’m willing to do whatever to help it. Thanks for the help in advance!

It looks like splay leg... You can check this link...

The sooner you help it the better it's chance will be. :fl

Some will fix others won't. It can be a side effect of incubation error or genetic. Have ya got some heat for the little one.. and any poultry or baby vitamins on hand?

Thanks for the fast response! I have pedialtye and save a chick probiotics on hand currently. It seems like it’s one foot won’t bend and it doesn’t have much movement in it at all

It doesn’t hurt to try a leg hobble and maybe a cup or chick chair. Here are some good links with taping instructions:

You’re so awesome! Seriously I can’t thank you enough for your help all the time! I went ahead and did that splint as well as the bandaids on the feet since she has curly toes on both sides. She can’t even get up at all and rolls over so tonight I made her a “cotton bath” with my first aid adhesive tape to keep her propped up for the night.

Oh how cute is that little sweetie? You might want to take some chick crumbles and grind them up for her to eat, or add some water to a little chick crumbles. I would give some vitamins, such as Poultry Cell or NutriDrench a couple of drops. Or Polyvisol without Iron 2 drops daily. Here are some chick chairs:

Okay everyone - so here are a few more pics. It’s so hard to explain through a computer (I'm sure ya'll know) Basically his right foot doesn't seem to have much response to anything (and that's the one sticking straight out that I can't seem to bend at all). The other leg bends (but seems to be swollen and bigger comparing it to the other joint. Without a hobble he pushes that leg back behind him while the one that won't bend on his other side is straight out in front of him. He seems to always try moving that leg, but the other one just don't have any movement at all. I tried a hobble but he still can't really move at all and when I leave him alone without anything around him to support him he just rolls and lays there and kinda gives up. His feet have band aids to help him straighten them out, but I'm not sure if I should redo the hobble because I don't think it's really helping his issues. I'm happy to quickly answer anyone's questions.

PS I promise he's more lively than he looks in the pictures lol.
