Hello I'm MrsFarmerJoe here. I came into two legbar cockerals courtesy of TSC selling me what should have been 2 Legbar pullets. I've somehow managed to manage them for now. They mated with my ISA brown and or SmokeY pearl. I've no idea which egg came from whom but 3 hatched. One of my smokey pearls I was able to turn broody ans she successfully hatched them. As I upstanding it smokey pearls and ISA browns are hybrids. So what in the world type baby chicks do I have?

As far as I know you don’t have a particular kind of chick, they’re a barnyard mix (mutt of chickens). To my knowledge the breeds used in the Isa brown and Smokey pearl hybrids are unknown. You could make your own hybrid name for them, they sound like unique
chicks. 😊

Welcome!
Be careful with overheating them in that box. Doesn't look like there is enough room for them to get away from the heat.
Thank you Kiki. This is temporary I just brought them in from the coop with the broody hen because out of the 3 2 of them one was injured somehow under a wing. And the other that was I and running around yesterday was lethargic and not moving. So something was happening in the coop. My husband built me a broader box when we first started over a year ago. But it is too heavy for me to lift so I have to wait for him to get home. That lamp is very low heat output from the bulb and they are in my office with me so I can encourage them to eat and drink water. I think the brooding hens were eating their food and them not drinking water was one of the issues I observed over the kast couple of days. They are only 1 week old as of today. I lost one today apparently I guess too far gone. She was up and running around yesterday but when I went out this morning she was moving. I got her out hoping to revitalize her like I did the other but no such luck. So sad!. But now I'm just curious about what type of offspring they actually are from the mix.

Do you know what coccidiosis is?
Keep a close eye on their poop...get a fresh picture of some of you can. It kills chicks quickly.

Hello and Welcome to BYC! Glad that you have joined this community of poultry lovers. Sorry that you are having troubles with the broody and the little chicks. Some hens just don't make good moms. as to the type of bird it should be called a barnyard hybrid layer if they are pullets. Fried chicken if cockerels.

Lol. Yes. I was hoping to figure out early on male or female. Because I currently have two legbar cockerals . I really don't want anymore. I've tried and tried to give away one of the cockerals but no body seems to want them. So I've been delaying the inevitable but hubby says one of them their days are numbered. I've finally committed to which one. My son wanted one over the other of course it wasn't the one I wanted. So I had to break his little heart when I told him which one I was going to cull.
