This has me scratching my head. My 1 year old Blue Ameraucana has suddenly stopped laying eggs. About 2 weeks ago I noticed she seemed a little "off" in the way she was acting so I kept an eye on her. She was eating and drinking but didn't seem as peppy as she usually was. She wasn't egg bound, no bugs, not broody, just not her self. After a couple of days she perked up and as of today she's running around the run with the rest of the girls absolutely normal. The rest are laying but not 1 blue egg from her.

Ideas???

Ameraucana aren't consistent layers, many stop and start throughout the season.
This is true for a lot of chickens . They will stop Laying for any of a number of reasons . Hot weather not enough or not clean enough water . Or just to drive you crazy wondering why. But some do give signs smaller or odd shape eggs . Very large eggs are hard on them too . If they lay those enough it can even kill them . But a very large egg can injure their inards and they may shut down to heal .But like I said its really just to drive us crazy :lau Happy she is doing better .

Well. I think I have to agree on the "just to drive me crazy theory" cause first thing this morning, there it was, a little blue egg. She was strutting around in the run as if she was saying, "I got you goin didn't I". Every day it's something new with these chickens. Kinda like with kids. (Oh man, if that's the case I've gotta find these girls a new home fast before they become teenagers!!! ;);))
