Does anyone have any idea why my 1year old chickens have just stopped laying? They are eating and drinking and acting just fine. We went from 12 eggs a day to anywhere from 1 to 4 eggs now.
You're in Tennessee and your hens are not laying and they are not broody, right?
Then they are either:
(1) mis-nourished
(2) something or someone is pilfering the eggs, or
(3) more likely than not your hens are laying in a secret location (or 2 or 3) known only to your hens.
Organize an Easter egg hunt with special attention paid to dark, covered, out of the way, weedy, secluded, places usually against a backdrop and on the ground.
Liking that sit outside morning and noon until you hear a hen cackle that she has laid, then either watch where she comes from or else remember where she went to before she cackled.
Hens act strangely before they lay, so watch closely. Besides learning about chickens is fun.
