1 year old hen can't walk-possible injury? Update- broken pelvis.

Oh, let me clarify, I wasn't trying to say you need to limit her activity any more than it is limited already. I was just trying to answer about how long it will take to heal. She probably has all the limitation she needs if you have her in a laundry basket or whatever, and food and water are available, and I know I don't have to caution you to do those things!

Ah, I see-

It does make me consider, though how much she's getting up and whether I ought to try to limit her a tad- she's all of a week and a half into this...and perhaps bird bones don't mend so well/quickly? I seem to remember a discussion about that on here at some point.

I'd hate to have this heal more slowly due to her self-potty-training...I still can't get over that!!

I'll be watching over her...love her lots!

My personal approach to this sort of thing is to let the animal do what it wants to do. I figure they are no dumber than I am, and anyway, I don't want to cause them the stress of my forbidding what they feel inclined to do.

You know, pottying outside the den/nest/whatever is a pretty common instinct. I don't think I would interfere with that.

Have no idea about bird bones healing more slowly than people bones. Do not recall a discussion about this. You could be right. Does not make sense to me, though. Theirs are small and hollow. They should heal faster than people bones, I would think.

I think it was a discussion about a broken leg- but my vet says they don't heal terribly well, and to let her guide the show, so I'll let her pain level direct her function. She really wants to lay around, but gets up every hour or so to poop to a different corner of the doggy bed. Poor girl.

Thanks for all of your suggestions!
