Usually they would be either of the two that where bred to make the comets. MANY farms raise them but buy them from feed stores to lay eggs for about a year and then sell them, then buy new chicks. I know this because I go to livestock auctions, and the poultry sale is full of these and white leghorns.
I would sell these as Backyard chickens or egg layers. They are not mutts persay, But the cockeral is golden when he should be white.

Golden Comets are from breeding a White Leghorn rooster to a Rhode Island Red hen. All of the hens will be golden and the roos will be white. The coloring won't be true on a second generation but still are great laying hens.

I have Rhode Island White girls I breed with my Rhode Island Red boys and get pretty much the same results. For whatever reason I am unable to upload any pictures right now???

Actually, I don't think this is correct. I think the rooster has to be the Rhode Island or New Hampshire and the hens have to be White Rocks or Delawares or Wyandottes. I dont believe Leghorns can be used.

This is true.
Red Sex-Links are the result of various crosses. White Rocks with the silver factor (the dominant white gene would produce all white offspring) are crossed with a New Hampshire male to produce the Golden Comet.

Silver Laced Wyandotte crossed with New Hampshire gives the Cinnamon Queen.

Two other crosses are obtained with Rhode Island White x Rhode Island Red, and Delaware x Production Red. These two crosses are simply called Red Sex-Links. Males hatch out white and, depending on the cross, feather out to pure white or with some black feathering. Females hatch out buff or red also depending on cross, and they feather out in one of three ways.

1. Buff with white or tinted undercolor (such as Golden Comet, Rhode Island Redmale and Rhode Island White female)
2. Red with White or tinted undercolor (Cinnamon Queen)
3. Red with Red undercolor (Delaware female x Production Red male) (In this color pattern it is almost impossible to distinguish daughters' color from father's color.)

Both Red and Black Sex-Links use a red male for the father. Either a Rhode Island Red or a New Hampshire may be used. Black Sex-Links are produced using a Barred Rock as the mother. Both sexes hatch out black, but the males have a white dot on their heads. Pullets feather out black with some red in neck feathers. Males feather out with the Barred Rock pattern along with a few red feathers.

California White is a cross between a California Gray male and a White Leghorn female.
Production Red is a cross between a Rhode Island Red male and a New Hampshire Red female.
