10 Baby Wood Ducks (1st thought they were Mallards)

Pics
Wood ducks roost in trees at night, so we installed this high perch yesterday. I found all 4 on it this morning and again this afternoon. They're a little camera shy, so I only caught 2 in the picture.

We're going to build a box in that corner up on the roost, hoping they will use it as the weather gets colder. If they leave, I'll dismantle it, but at least they'll have a warm spot in the pen while they decide to stay.

Added a plywood platform to the 4x4 over the door. I think they'll like that too.

DH built our 1st coop/pen which is annexed to the side of the shed. We got our hands on a used coop, so built the 2nd enclosure (where the ducks and 9 pullets reside). Both enclosures have a shared fence, and there is the opening between the two pens, but it's boarded up. I let my 2 big hens into the pullets' enclosure, and the big girls jumped on the pullets whenever they got close. Thinking I need to do some backyard parties for the girls before I can open that door again.

On the other side of the hens' coop is a large outside fenced area. It also has overhead fencing (hawks and owls).

I like that! Too bad my kids never really went into the coop, 'cept to steal food now and then.

Went to pick up more duckweed, and was able to catch all 4 on the penthouse roost.

I'm in the process of weeding and cleaning up the blueberry bush garden. (Translation: Massive amount of weeds needed to be yanked out, and I'm doing it at a snail's pace.) Couple of real solid grass clumps (with roots), so I thought I'd add them to the ducks' swamp area in the pen. Kinda adds a natural feel to the place. :)
