We eat at a great little resturant that charges $.25 for a really nice take out tray. They are round with a nice clear lid so you can see whats in the tray. The lid fits snuggly and doesn't leak! I have several and I love them! They go in the dish washer and we use them to take left overs for lunch the next day. I think its well worth the charge but for a styrafoam thingy, no.
tupperware (i think) has these great little collapsible bowls I would bring that...IF I ever went back... or I would let them add their 10% and not leave a tip... you got your tip see what being greedy gets you... no where... and lets face it.. the server would have to ADD that to the bill because there is not a computer that will tell if you took your left overs or not. ... but can be a "B" with an itch too
Where can I find collapsible bowls? The few times that I do eat out, I always have leftovers and I always want to take them with me.

She is the owner and while I don't like tipping in general, I do tip her - not in cash though, I tip her with eggs, or jam or fresh fruit from my orchard. She loves it.
Foil-line your purse! That's what my mother in law did.
No, just kidding.
I would NOT ever go back there. There are so MANY restaurants that do not treat their customers like this. Half of all new restaurants close within the first year, the rest of them try to survive however they can, dissing a customer like this is not the way to do it! If they would rather pay more in garbage fees then a few cents for a take out container and lose customers, they are idiots.
I flatly refuse to go to businesses that treat me poorly.
And, Yay! I finally got to use the smack smiley.
Take care and eat out at customer friendly places people.

Hee hee.. i would do the same! Thats why we get along..
Coming from a food service background... but also someone who expects good customer service when I go out... thats so rediculous!
Yes... someone in the kitchen usually does the bagging of the carryout orders. Depends on the establishment, it might be the waitress, it might be the expo (person in the kitchen who dresses and organizes the food and service), or it might be the manager on a busy night.
The to-go containers and carryout packaging isen't free... but neither is it expensive enough that a decently functioning restaraunt would feel it.
No one I ever knew would even dream of expecting a tip for throwing food into containers. As an expo once at Applebees a looong time ago.... on a busy night when I was in gear working... it didn't take more than two minutes to put together a carry-out order... and it's kind of fun, with all the little cups and packaging containers and disposable silverware packages (I kind of have a "thing" for that sort of stuff
)
Theres just nothing to justify charging the customer extra... nothing.
On the other hand, theres plenty to justify NOT charging extra. Doesen't that restaurant manager realize that people go to restaurants for the experience of being served well? That they return to the places they feel have good value for the money? That he is probably running off all of his customers? Loosing a penny here or a penny there in the interest of encouraging repeat business is worth it.... that's why you don't see the good restaurants that stick around charging for every little thing... they have managers who know how to run sssssstuff.
The things I tip for -
Waitress... usually 15%.. I always try to tip as well as I can... but I don't get hung up on the percentages. If the service was not acceptable, less than 5%... Truly horrible, I won't leave a dime. That excludes things like the kitchen being slow and such. But if I order something a certain way and it is not done correctly, I will send it back until it's right. If the server does not properly reflect my dis-satisfaction on the check, I request and give all of my thoughts to the manager. I don't feel bad either... without complaints when something is wrong, it will never improve and the establishment will be worse off.
When I was a waitress, I was obviously interested in a good tip... but if a customer was kind it didn't really faze me if they couldn't leave more than a few bucks. It's understandable.
Pizza delivery drivers .... I used to tip these poorly.. before I delivered pizzas
Yes... they do nothing but carry pizzas to a car and then back out.. not hard work... however, there is gas. For this reason and this reason alone (gas) I tip the driver at least $5 all the time. I'm pretty regular in my $5 tip no matter the number of pizzas. Drivers get a good salary to start, so as long as gas is covered (to your place and back to the store again) they can make decent money. If they have to carry alot, especially drinks... I add on to the tip.
Hairdressers... can't remember the last time I went to one.... as my mom was one
My only thoughts on this subject are what my mom always says when she goes out to have her hair done by another professional.... A tip is for more than just an O.K job, it's for the girl that does your hair with extra care or shows a real skill and listens to you willingly. If my mom doesen't like her hair or felt like she was ignored... she won't leave a tip... but if she gets a really good cut or someone who takes care of her for the half hour shes in the chair, she leaves a pretty good tip.
Cab drivers.... I barely ever tip, just pay the fare. Unless the dude kept the ac blasting, the radio off, stayed off the phone except to HQ, didn't blabber at me for the whole ride... if they somehow manage to not annoy me, I give them $5 extra
Bartenders.... theres no real reason to tip in excess. Just a reasonable amount for the time expended on you. Please everyone stop with the small change. Round up. If I purchased a single drink, which I don't any longer, I usually give a full extra dollar... not just the 38 cents leftover
If I was ordering all night, which I never would, I would probably give them $10 or $15. I would NOT throw the bartender $100.. that's crazy
Pet groomers.... It depends on how many pretty bows my doggy gets!
I want sparkles.. I want bows... and most of all, my pet should look happy like they enjoyed the experience.
Fast food.... you are not getting a tip. I worked behind a counter and didn't get tipped.... you are being paid a normal wage, unlike a waitress, so that should be enough.
Darn now... I cant think of anyone else who gets tipped....... Oh... but please don't ever try to tip your flight attendant. Sometimes people make it super hard to say no without insulting... but we DID get in big doo-doo if caught
I would tip a place... that delivered all my groceries to my door
