100 Broilers and Fermented Feed Project

Good info!  Another thing all those breads contain known to cause cancer is caramel coloring.  The wheat breads will have it and many other foods have it.  That's why I make my own bread and getting ready to do that today, from wheat I grind here at home.  This wheat was stored back in the 70s and is still as fresh as the day it was put by.

How was it stored to last that long? I make my own bread and have found good prices for wheat but shyed away from it because I don't know how to store it properly. I would love to make my own flour.

I would love to as well.

Those are the ones Angelicisi uses. They look so pretty and professional. They have youtube videos on how to shrink them and they look easy to use. I haven't used them yet but was planning on getting them for the next batch. They even have parts size for legs only.

Heat shrink bags? Tell me more.

I *think* you put the chicken in the bag, dunk it in very hot water and it shrink wraps the chicken. I ordered from http://www.texaspoultryshrinkbags.com/purchase.html late last week, and they arrived this morning. I even got a personalized email from the guy, so professional! I haven't opened the package yet, the instructions are supposed to be in there.

I'm trying to slowly build up the supplies I need, so I'm not overwhelmed when the chickies arrive.

I feel like I completely splurged on freezer bags now, lol. I ordered online some heat shrink bags, with freezer labels, zip-ties etc. It was $25 for 50. We're only planning on 30-40 chickens a year, so I liked the neat packaging.

Is there any other additional equipment needed to shrink them like some sort of machine?

KG-- isn't amazing what is in our food??? I don't trust the FDA or USDA in all matters . . . like my kids do NOT parttake in school lunches. My dogs eat better food than that. As for the food we eat from the supermarket . . . ?

THe foods we eat today in the standard AMerican diet are all junk!! OK I said it. However, the opportunities to eat very good foods are better now than in the history of mankind. THe supermarkets are well stocked with quality nutritious foods if we shop the perimeter. ANd grow what we can, too.

As for bread, making homemade bread is much healthier on many levels. Removing all the addatives is one and reducing the portion of the grains that are so finely ground that our insulin/blood sugars go haywire.

Using whole grains is key to better health but most of us are not used to that. It can be a work in progress though. I use a coffee grinder for many small grains like millet, flax and sorghum to increase the whole grains.

( In my house we eat whole grains in soups; we eat very little bread now. Still have all my bread making books though.
