I know just how ya feel I lost one of my roos yesterday!! I assume it was from the heatwave as well I left Sunday morning (I gave them Ice water before I left)!! came home sunday night and there he was in the corner of the coop!! I felt horrible to see a once proud roo lay in the corner dead!!! I added another fan it seemed to help today!! Keep your head up it happens sometimes!!! I'm sorry for your loss!

I'm so terribly sorry Darlene

Poor dear hen. These temps are he77 on earth. And they came too quickly for most anybody to adjust, feathered or otherwise. It's just so sad.

I'm also sorry about your roos tsagirl and crowinking

My less than 2 year old barred rock hen was open mouth breathing big time by noon so I shut she and her roo buddy in the coop, light off, 3 fans on. A thermometer said it was 85 in there (probably easily 90 with heat index) - it's roughly 105 outside with heat index. Not much of an improvement but hopefully enough to keep her alive another day. It's 7 p.m. now so I just let them back out to stretch before bed. It's a mere 96 degrees at this point

Tomorrow promises to be just as grizzly...Hearing about power outages everywhere and praying that doesn't happen to the elderly.......... or anyone with chickens...

Again, I'm so sorry - I wish it were all just a nightmare and we'd wake up and your babies would all be fine.

I'm sorry. That high of heat would be hard on anything, human included. I know when I had rabbits I froze water bottles and changed them a few times a day to let them lay beside them. I wonder if that would work for chickens also? Maybe mist them down a few times a day if you can so the water can cool them. I know they do that to the larger livestock and I don't see why it wouldn't work on chickens also. I don't know what else I would do. I'm so sorry.

I'm really sorry for all your losses ..stay cool as best you can!

Our temps aren't even close to some of yours ..just 85 today... but Obe and Tahti were open-mouth breathing when I just stuck my head out the kitchen window to check. I rushed out there and gave them a second water source ..they can get in it, as well... and I wet the ground all around them and the top of their run.

Do chickens really like to get wet? My little ones were squawking like I was killing them when the mist from the hose got near them.

My chicken does the same thing.

I put ice cubes in my chicken's water. If I am gone from the house for a while, I would freeze a gallon milk jug filled with water and put the jug in the large water dish that I have. I don't know how long it would be stay frozen for though....
