108 Degree Heat...My First Chicken Loss :(

I'm so sorry Darlene. I'm wishing cooler weather for all of you suffering with the heat. It's cloudy and rainy and very windy here. Wish I could send some of it to you and we could all have a happy medium.

I'm so sorry Darlene.

I keep tins of water about 2 inches deep in the pen. They stand in it when it gets unbearable. Blind tiny lays in hers.

Edited to add: By tins I mean flat round tins that are about 3' in diameter and 3" tall filled 2" deep.

This site is awsome! I love the fact you all really care about when we loose chickens. They really mean the world to us and are a part of our family.

We have ground thunder with no thought of rain at all and yesterday we had a two hour power outage so yes, that is possible...and thinking about the poor and the elderly who depend on fans to keep cool does put losing a chicken in perspective....

I dumped out my rubber feeding dish, put the food in a big bowl and filled the feeding dish with water, it's about 5" deep and they were curious, they all drank out of it and a few got on the sides of it and perched there with their toes in the water, I stood two in it and they quickly got out but maybe tomorrow that will be a cooling option, thanks for the idea Ruth.

Thank ya'll for the sympathy, I do appreciate it. I buried my little hen (her name was Georgia) beside the cat we had die from luekemia in February. I hope I don't have to dig any more little animal graves this summer...ya'll either

Hi there,
I know how you feel. I live in South Carolina and we have had some record temps. I have lost 6 birds in the past week and I am sure it is due to the heat. We all just need to continue praying that the good Lord sees fit for us to get some type of relief from the scorching weather. I hope you don't lose anymore birds.
