Hi everyone! I’ve suspected this little OE may be a boy for some time. Their pea comb turned red early and is a bit more pronounced than the other pea comb chicks I have and they spar a lot with my orpington chick (who I also suspect is a roo). I was holding out hope cause she’s never been brave and is pretty skittish and then this morning, I spotted what look like saddle feathers coming through! I know saddle feathers can be tricky cause some hens can have feathers that come to a point (or have coloring that make it look that way) but these look pretty pointy! Is all hope lost? Is this adorably puffy-cheeked hen a roo? I feel like at 11-weeks, she’d look like an obvious roo but I’m still on the fence. 🤔

Any closer to a determination?
I’m leaning towards cockerel just with the way that tail is growing in. We are coming up on 13-weeks so I’m waiting for that first crow before I make the final call.

I’m currently facing the same “is this olive egger a roo?” question and wishing more would follow up. Was this chicken a cockerel? I have one with an early large red comb and iridescent feathers that at 6 weeks I’ve already trained to sit on my hand and be a good…boy? Wanting to re-home him sooner than later as I’m not allowed roosters. Thank you!
