Heres a question that may sound stupid but here goes.....if you've had the eggs in the incubator for a few days and candle them to see if they are indeed developing. ...I would assume that it's not OK to eat the ones that show no sign of development?

I would not eat the ones that did not develop and/or were infertile because it will be at least day 3-4 if not 7 by the time you find that information out through candling. They will be liquid, I dunno how else to describe it and definitely not safe for consumption.

ETA: Oh you’re saying it would NOT be okay to eat. Yes, you are right. Not okay to eat 😆 thought you were asking if they would be okay to eat.

I'm with hysop, it's really not worth it. Incubators are warm and moist which is a perfect environment for growth... growth of chicks and possibly growth of bacteria as well. I've also opened plenty of eggs that have been in the incubator for a week, just to confirm that they were indeed infertile. Believe me, they don't look appetizing.

I found a thread that goes over the issue if anyone is interested. https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/eating-infertile-eggs-in-the-incubator.136566/

That was funny thanks. I’ve only incubated eggs once and only 2 were infertile. I gave em to my strictly outside dog. He’ll eat anything, he eats rats, mice, dead animal carcass, he’s a B.A. he’s immune to snake bites. In the past my husband would toss bad eggs into a fire he had going or out in our field we rarely go to.

Just finished doing a mobile Google Sheets spreadsheet using @julskinka ’s format that they so kindly shared in our March Hatchalong thread weeks ago.

Seeing that I can’t candle olive eggs for development I have decided to weigh them which I did on Day 0. Super excited for this new learning experience and what I will learn this time around.
