Power company was trimming trees down the road and hit something. Power was out for an hour or so. I wrapped the incubator in bathroom rugs to try to retain warmth and thought... "what am I doing?" It got me thinking, what is the best way to handle incubating eggs during a power outage. How long is too long and what temp is too low? Any tips or tricks?
An hour will not hurt them

I've read an article on the temp difference and number of fatalities at different temps. I'll see if I can find it again. What you did to keep the temps stable for longer is really what most of us do when the power goes out.
Thanks! Fingers crossed! Since I'm working from home right now I'm contemplating borrowing the UPS from my computer at work to provide some battery backup. Wouldn't last a whole day anyway, but would maybe give me some extra time to think about it. 🤷‍♀️

That is a great idea! I have been trying to figure out some way to keep the 4 breeds I am going to hatch separate while they hatch!
I flip them the other way when it's time for lockdown do the basket is over the eggs.

I don't like my staggered hatch eggs to get dirty That's why I do it so it keeps the egg shells and the chicks under the basket until they're dry. It's easy to clean this way too.

I am working remotely too!

Gonna start collecting eggs for hatching today. My roosters been doing his part, hopefully I can get a good yield.
I only got one so far, but with my hens laying 8-10 a day I should get plenty before it’s time to set them.
:wee

I hope you get lots of fertile eggs to hatch!
