2 out and 13 left to go. Three more pips I can see so far.

Well hatching is finish. I had one internal pip but didn’t external pip.. not sure what happened there. The last one which was alive wasn’t positioned right. I suspected but couldn’t tell where it’s head was. I opened the wire cell hoping it was enough but it wasn’t. Makes me sad... the other two that was left I haven’t opened up to see what happened there yet... lots of healthy babies though..

Have eggs in lockdown. I either set quail off a day or they were excited to see me. Because there were 11 quail in the incubator when I got home this morning.

Saw 4 of my turkey eggs were pipped. Had 2 chicken eggs that made it to lockdown. They need to hatch as I think my rooster is not gonna make it. Only pure breed I wanted to expand.

How do you guys know if a chick is dead inside of the egg? Are there still veins if its dead?

There will be different indicators at various stages. Early on, the vascular structure will collapse, creating a blood ring.

In week 2, the vascular structure will also collapse, and the chick will no longer be moving or anchored in the shell (when the egg is rocked gently it will look quite, what I refer to as, cloudy or soupy).

In the later stages you may be able to see the vascular structure in the upper most part of the egg (close to the air cell) is either gone, or very dark red, and you won’t see movement from the chick.

If it’s has died during lock down, the air cell will not suck down, indicating failure to get into hatching position (although sometimes it can mean they are just breach). The space by the aircell may also look yellow, or orange, where before it was dark or full of veins, and the chick will not be moving (sometimes hard to detect when the chick is that large, but you can float test when in doubt if it’s past it’s due day).

Have 2 external pips on my chicken eggs. The ducks are still internally pipped and nothing else 😂 Ducks are so cute, but they stress me out when hatching them.

Wondering if I'll get more jumbo Pekin ones because Pickles is a Jumbo 😁 Our Drake is a white layer. Our other duck is a white layer.

I still remember how big Pickles was compared to the other two. She was always big and goofy 😂

I have my incubator in our bedroom this year, to make sure the new kittens don’t wreak havoc on it in the spare room, and I was awoken by some little ducky chatting away inside it’s egg this morning ❤️ It’s a much nicer alarm clock than the 4 obnoxious roosters, constantly trying to out do each other, that I’m usually woken up by 😂
