I can say with confidence that this will be my last hatch ever out of my current incubator. There is absolutely no reason I should have had a glued chick. Humidity is perfect, wouldn’t dare open the top. Ugh. Luckily everyone else, so I thought (story below) was hatched. Glued baby is out, no idea how long it was like that. Was not pipped last night, but glued this morning.
I thought my sweet little Viva, the one with the nail polish crack didn’t make it, I was going to candle for movement, picked up the egg and got a very loud peep! She pipped on the side towards the floor, right on her nail polish crack! I helped her about half way, and put her back to finish herself.
I had 1 egg pip in the middle of the shell last night. I wish I would have checked on it in the middle of the night, although there probably wasn’t anything I could have done to know. It was DIS this morning. It suffocated while trying to zip. It was malpositioned upside down. I’ve never had this happen, and it’s so sad to find. The other egg that didn’t make it died sometime early lockdown.
On a happy note, I have 6 little chicks from 10 shipped eggs, and 1 was cracked! Can’t wait till they’re all fluffed up!!View attachment 2090597
We are very helpful here at BYC!This will now be my explanation for EVERYTHING!! Including, but not limited to, the 3 new breeds of chickens, 1 new duck breed, quail, and all my grow out geese I’ve added to the farm this year so far... and the year is still young![]()
Nice job on saving the cracked egg!Ran to town to pick up my kids school packets (They are out of school for the rest of the school year due to the virus) and 3 weeks worth of groceries (everything I need for 3 weeks except milk which I will get once every week and a half). Came home to find my wax patched egg baby had hatched! The backward Appenzellar baby is trying to unzip, but seems to be having some trouble. So I think I am going to have to assist. The last 2 eggs have not externally pipped yet, so may take them out and candle them quick to see if I see any movement or hear any noises.

Great job!
I personally don't assist unless the chick can externally pip on its own. If it can't there is usually a reason. Most chicks I've helped that didn't externally pip on their own usually had a deformity that was preventing them from pipping and they eventually died.
Give it more time. I often slap my hand in situations like this!If there is any movement or noise coming from the last 2 that are not pipped, I will give them some more time in the incubator - no plan to assist until there is an external pip. The one that is backward and already externally pipped has zipped about 1/2 an inch, but seems to be having trouble moving to continue to peck around the egg.
