Here's a pic of the area close up. The membrane is still a little dry looking, so I'm going to oil it a little more.

I think that we're gonna try and finish the assist. If this is a bad idea, please let me know.

Ok, I don't see any blood vessels jumping out at me and with your description that he started to zip and then stopped likely means he's ready. If you proceed just proceed very slowly and if you see any blood at all, stop immediately, apply gentle pressure with a q-tip (have the q-tip ready) and place the chick back in the incubator to wait.
 
9 chicks so far.

Earlier ones are getting kind of feisty. Should I be concerned that they'll interfere with others hatching (roll eggs around, etc.?

Chick soccer is normal but I do tend to take dry chicks out of the incubator once another chick is freshly hatched and wet causing the humidity to spike. I leave the wet chick in the incubator and take out the dry ones.
