Aight. 5 outta the 6 mallard derived duck eggs I've set for this hatch-along successfully hatched. One was either infertile or a very early quitter. Two hatched on like day 25-26, two more on day 27.

Last one had trouble getting out, she made an internal pip but no external like the others. Turns out there was a leg-over-beak malposition, and during the assist hatch she decided to break out a little early with the yolk sac and internal membrane still attached to her..

In the hopes of keeping her still so she doesn't rip nor herniate anything, I had to position her upright in a cup overnight. The yolk eventually absorbed away, but she was so restless I decided to manually cut off the blood vessel that still attached her to the egg.

Her umbilical area was very exposed at first, and there was concern of infection and herniation. Thankfully, it slowly closed up over the day and now I can hardly see it anymore!

She's doing well now, running around and huddling with the rest of the ducklings. My first time ever performing an assist hatch, and having ducks! Some mistakes made along the way, and I learnt lots from it too. So very happy how it all turned out.

I named her Dream (in reference to what we experience during sleep, not the guy inside some of our youtube recommendations )

I had a dismal hatch with 7 of 25 hatching and surviving.
This was a first for me, where all 25 were viable and active on day 18.

So sad..it's happened to me..it is very sad and disappointing.

You would be better getting them from a breeder that sells Ameraucana
chickens. Feed stores will not likely have them.

Our feed stores get EE's in all the time.
