12th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-Along

Still in lockdown...8 out of 10 of mine have hatched on day 21. I got 4 Lav Orp/RIR cross & 4 Lav Orp babies - am now just waiting for the 8th hatchling to dry off a little bit more before moving them all to brooder. Not sure if my last 2 eggs are quitters or not yet though, the saddle air cell one was still alive the last time I candled it on Day 17 so I'll give it & the other one another day & let you know by tomorrow if those 2 don't hatch.

I was expecting my Lav Orp/RIR crosses to look more red or blue but right now they just look like a bunch of little fuzzy penguins

At this point when most have hatched for me, I pick up the ones that haven't and put it to my ear and tap. Listen for a peep. If you hear it, put it back. If not, you can candle. .

Out of 25 eggs, we had 16 successful hatches. Sad for the loss ones but pleased for our first ever incubation to go well!
We did have 2 hatch with curled toes and we are kind of struggling with fixing it for them. Any advice appreciated!

You would be better getting them from a breeder that sells Ameraucana
chickens. Feed stores will not likely have them.

Oh, well... that's sad. I don't know of any breeders around here. I'll be happy with any EE's I get though, as long as they are friendly and sweet. And hopefully lay green or blue eggs.

Don’t worry about it yet. If they still are like that tomorrow, use a Band-Aid to make a shoe.
