I'm (possibly) purchasing these (hopefully) ladies in a couple of days. I think they're going to be hens, but hoping for a second opinion.

The seller says he 'got them as chicks in January' - so somewhere between 12 and 16weeks. I'm assuming 12wks to err on the side of caution.

those aren't barred rocks, maybe cucko marans.
Can I ask what makes you think that? I'm not an expert, but a quick look around says Marans should have white / grey legs, and Rocks would have yellow - not that it's super easy to tell on the pictures.

Also should have said they are supposed to be Bantams - again, hard to tell size with the provided pics

Okay I'm thinking they look like photos of barred rock bantams I've seen before.

However those combs seem awful large for possibly only 12 week birds... I'm kind of on the edge.

Any barred rock bantam experts out there?

I've had barred rocks before, and the pattern on yours are definitely different.
But they look older than 12wks, so it would make sense with the small comb and wattle development. I'm gonna say pullet for them since I don't see those rooster saddle feathers and pointed feathers. But I'm on the edge since the tails look a little funny, kinda short for pullets.
Wish you luck!

I Remember I was reading somewhere on backyard chickens about how to tell the difference and I remember it saying that there are certain feathers right above the tail and on the neck that will be different shapes depending on male or female. I wish I could remember what thread that was because it also told you the eight you would start seeing those feathers be different
