12x12 Titan brooder he.

Hi guys!!! Just wondering if any of you have any experience with a brooder hen plate for heat source instead of a lamp. It’s my first time incubating and hatching and this was recommended, and i have 9 chicks in there now and they’re all under it, quiet as can be, but just wanted to see if there was anyone else who has used only a plate and not a lamp.

I can't be that helpful, as I'm new to chickens, but I just got a Titan brooder hen plate and I'm getting ready to put it in a new, bigger brooder... I tried it out on a couple of chicks and they needed some help to understand what was going on, but once I shooed them under, they seem so happy, they didn't want to come out!
I'll be curious to hear what others have to say...

I switched to a heat plate when I got a Brinley heater. I loved it and the way the chicks seem more content in the brooder. I have since moved to a "sweeter heater" as it seems to be more robust than the plastic legged Brinley. I will not use a lamp again.

Mine have been so content and happy under there. So far so good.... but I’m going to take them all out this afternoon to make sure they drink.

Yes!!! They’re super content in there!!! Hardly a peep at all! Just wanted to hear others thoughts and opinions too!!

I have a different model but mine love it! I've raised it to the last setting as mine are bigger now - I have 12 chicks and all fit comfortably. I did buy this "feather belt" that's made especially for them. It mimics the feathers of a hen - used it for first 2.5 weeks. OMG - so funny to see them dart in and out from that little cozy hiding spot! Have a very large brooder now and so am using a heat lamp on one end just in case they get a wee bit of a chill.

We moved the girls into their bigger, better brooder (4' diameter kiddie pool surrounded by hardware cloth, and some scrap lightweight foam sheeting that was packing material in a big box laid over the top to prevent escapes...they're trying to fly!).
It took them a while to understand the heater plate (even after I put them under it), but now they're all snuggled under it, quiet and seemingly happy... except for one little guy. I'll check back on them in a half-hour or so and see if that same lone hen is out from under. Which could mean, I guess, that he's just hardier...though I worry he was kicked out.
