13 year old daughter and Christmas

Quote:
These are the types of things on my daughter's wish list. Well, she got a "pink" digital camera for her birthday. But she always begs for hollister and abercrombie stuff, which we typically cannot afford. I think I will break down for Christmas and take her shopping. She is also into Nintendo DS and plays it a lot. Sims games are pretty popular with the preteens here. And of course, she wants a cell phone - but even mom don't have one of those. That kind of defeats the point of living in the middle of nowhere. lol

What about redoing her room. let her choose the bedding drapes etc. Maybe even some beanbag furniture.Repainting or papering. Make it totally her.

EXCELLENT suggestion. Many people assume that all young people are only interested in themselves. Nothing could be further from the truth, and this is a very good age to start nurturing and refining the drive to do something good and minister to someone else. If I had human kids at home, I'd certainly go for that.

My daughter is 13 so hopefully I can give you some insight....she's not your average kid though, not all that girly.
-This year, we have told relatives that we want them to take a portion of the money they would normally spend on the kids, and apply it to thier local Humane Society in the kids name.
-Concert tickets, we did that last year.
-I am looking into a banjo for my daughter this year at her request, so maybe some sort of musical instrument, or even just CD's.
-Clothes
-Get her a new bedding ensamble/curtains etc.
-Digital camera
-stereo
-my daughter has a horse so we always get in a "need" for him under the tree as well as a gift to her.
-Mother /daughter weekend away somewhere
-Books, books, books
Girls aren't as easy as some would think. Mine is so easy going, not into fashion, doesn't use her ipod, etc. So we have been a bit clueless at time. Our budget it tight this year too so we have to be careful.

Good luck

A diary... Teen girls usually love to write about themselves.

Some nice makeup, or a necklace or earrings to wear on special occasions...

A new coat of paint in her bedroom... Let her choose the color.

I have an almost 13 yr old and a 15 yr old and all I can say 2 words JONAS BROTHERS!!! They have a new CD. I'm thinking about getting them a simple stereo and a CD.

The digital camera is also a great idea. My girls love to take the camera to school and take pictures.

Let us know what you decide.

great ideas! thanks everyone!

i havent fully made up my mind. our situation is quite a strange one some might say:

she is my oldest and her younger sister that is 9 live with there dad. long story short (will try to make it short) we got divorced, the girls and i moved closer to my dad (about a hour and half from my ex)
i met a wonderful guy and we ended up getting married, my husband did not have children. so when we decided to have a baby and i told the kids i was pregnant, well they told there dad and all H*** broke loose. he said my husband and i were abusing my girls! so they went to live with there dad and have been there ever since. they now have a step mom they most of the time cant stand. and we told them they are welcome back at anytime. but there friends are there.

so there room has been redone in the last year or so, new comforters, we found a guy that makes beds out of hard pine so they have that, new mattresses, sheets, everything!

digital camera, we were shopping in walmart in june and they had some digital cameras on clearence she got the digital camera then for her birthday ( samsung 7 mega pixel for $ 50! ) could not pass up that bargain!

last Christmas she asked for a cell phone. we got one to surprise her and my ex mother in law got her one too! my ex mother in law already had it all set up so we took the one we got back, let her pick something else. my ex mother in law told my daughter that i should have told her what i was getting her

i dont call my ex mother in law and talk!

i think it was 2 birthdays ago she wanted a guitar, (my husband plays one) so we got her a guitar! (she rarely picks it up 2 yrs later)

i went to do some Christmas shopping today, i am looking around getting some ideas for her. it is hard when they get older and there is such expensive stuff they are into!

i like the one idea that gekkomamma does with the one gift and some money! i am definetly going to do that as they get older!

edited to say: we did not abuse my girls just wanted to add that! so no one wonders! my ex mother in law ended up telling me later that they had made a huge mistake accusing us of that! my husband makes sure they have good Christmas' and birthdays, etc. and took us all on vacation in Ark. in July. He loves them as much as his the two we have together!
