Hello all,

I hatched 2 bantam chicks (breed unknown so far, I have quite a mixture) in my incubator. One of them seems to have leg issues - I will refer to the chick as she/her but obv I have no idea what sex yet, I just don't like saying ‘it’ - her first night she could only shuffle backwards but by noon on the next day she was up and walking by herself, however by the next day her legs were splaying out to the sides and she took a while to get going. But later that day she was fine and could get about, eat and drink and back under the brooder ok by herself.
So she can walk fine during the day but overnight she ends up doing the splits. We have resorted to hobbling her with a bandaid to keep her legs under her and I put paper towels on the floor of the brooder the first night to help her get purchase.
Has anyone else had this where it is intermittent? Also are there any exercises -chick physio - we can do to strengthen her legs or food we can give her? I was going ro give her some scrambled egg tonight.
I had a broody hen ready to foster but I think I will have to let her out again :( I fear she will reject the splits-doing chick and I don’t want a lonely baby in the brooder by themself.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Bump and also would it be ok to try the chick wearing hobbles with a broody hen to see if she would accept them? I don’t feel it would be safe and I would be better raising this one under my electric brooder, esp as the hen I would have used has already rejected the chick.

HI,
I have nine 2 day old quail and one of mine was like that once it had hatched it would get up and fall over back wards but after putting it under the heat lamp with my other chicks he/her got better .He is now walong around and eating OK. I suggest trying a feed called "fancy feed" and maybe a bedding that will support him/her like wood shavings also try her/him with the henew if she doesn't accept him put him in a brooseries with a teddy that he/her can sit under so it will think it's his/her mum. I hope this helped .
Good luck .
