14-week-old possible leg injury?

Have your husband pick up B-complex from any store that carries people vitamins. She needs a higher concentration, at least 50mg each of B-2, 6, and 12. Poultry vitamins don't have a therapeutic dose.

Unfortunately, there are many widely different causes of lameness. Exposure to petroleum distillates from machinery leaking fluids onto the soil, vitamin B deficiency, over-heating/heat stress, mold exposure, Marek's, lymphoid leucosis, and various respiratory diseases.

I've had a wide range of crippling disorders in my flock, lymphoid leucosis (similar to Marek's) being the predominant one. Here is a thread on a recent bout of lameness that I tried to treat in a whole lot of different ways, failing in the end to achieve the hoped for results. https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...update-now-another-pullet-going-lame.1432738/
And I will have him pick up the stronger vitamins!

She may have injured the leg and nerve, but her foot does look almost paralyzed. Mareks would be on a list of possibilities, but hope not. I would bring her out every day to spend time with her flock while you supervise for bullying. That will make reintegration easier. If she doesn’t tolerate separation, use a wire dog crate with food and water, and leave her with the flock. Will she grasp your finger when you put your finger into her foot? Is there any green bruising or swelling in the foot?
She does NOT squeeze my finger with that foot. No noticible swelling or bruising; however I did notice tiny cracks on that leg, almost like dry skin.

I'm quite new to chicken keeping myself, but had a pullet begin limping. I'll save you the details of my experience and instead refer you to look up curly toe paralysis. She may need higher doses of b vitamins.
I will look that up. I've seen the words "curly toe, " but I've skipped right over the info because I thought it didn't pertain. I feel so lost sometimes.... My husband thinks I'm getting a bit obsessive with our chickens, but I can't help it - I just love them, and I want to give them a happy, healthy life!

If your birds came from a store, they probably were vaccinated for Merek's. I've lost birds to Marek's, but they were not from a hatchery. Vitamins are very important. If you keep them in a coop, they only have access to what you provide. Mine free range so they have access to a lot of things in the area. But I still include vitamins in their water. I've even used baby vitamins when I couldn't get others. Make it available. They will take what they need..

My girl started with a limp which got progressively worse. I'm ashamed to say, after a few weeks the curled toes appeared. Until then, I had only the assumption that she had a joint or tendon that was painful and needed rest. My delay in getting her the right vitamins caused her permanent injury. It's hopeful that you've seen some improvement with vitamins, and in hoping for the simplest "fix," a therapeutic dose of b vitamins may be what helps. But I agree with the experienced respondents...it could be any number of things. B vitamins won't hurt.

I've had my moments of shame, too. One being my husband thinking now's the right time for a bunch of chickens! We are in the middle of remodeling an old farmhouse after moving back to our home state 5 months ago, and most of our stuff is still not unpacked from our move. We've talked for the past 2 years about buying some land and growing our own food, but I didn't realize that it would happen all at once! I don't think we were as prepared as a more responsible chicken owner would be. (His family had chickens growing up; my family got chickens my senior year of high school, and I'd help out even after getting my own home....neither scenario being adequate for taking such a big leap.) We did some research in building a coop and breeds of chickens, types of feed, etc, but I certainly wasn't prepared for the problems that can arise. And know we're putting in 2-acre garden! 🤯 So, yeah, I'm ashamed of my mistakes as an inexperienced chicken mom. 😩 But I'm determined to do my best!! (Btw, I am not complaining! Just releasing some built up stuff that has been swirling in my brain. 🤪 I appreciate anyone who will listen! Lol)

Similar experience... what? We bought land?! We MUST have an immediate garden and chickens while renovating a house! 😄No previous livestock experience, though. My husband thinks I'm crazy for making our chickens into pets. I hear you! It can be overwhelming, but rewarding.

Please keep us posted on your girl.

That is crazy!! 😆 What are the odds that you, with a similar story, would reply to my post?? It gives me a good feeling knowing I'm not alone in navigating thru a bit of chaos. I will keep you posted. Thank you for your reply. ❤

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
You're welcome.

Side note: In future, if you have to add more information, try to edit your original post instead of posting again in a reply to your original post. When there is only one original post, and no replies, it goes on a list of unanswered threads that the moderators and any other interested members review often to make sure no one goes unanswered. Depending on the day/time, and who was on line, it just so happened no one who could help saw your original post, and then when you replied to yourself, the system set up to make sure folks don't go unanswered didn't catch it.

I'm just a member, and recently learned all this myself. I've replied to myself a time or two also to try and get my post to show up on the What's New forum when more folks might see it. Sending good wishes for your pullet's recovery.
