My brother just found my only rooster dead in his tractor coop. He was in perfect body condition and was fine yesterday. I hadn't been outside yet today but gave him food and water yesterday.
I don't understand what happened.

He was supposed to go to fair, too. And he was my breeder so there's that.

How awful, I guess you are shook. Any idea what happened? I assume he was fairly young.

2-3 years, not exactly sure. I got him from a swap.

That's still young to me. We had a 4 y/o who was very protective and active. Any clues as to what could have happened? I feel so bad for both you and him.

I hate to admit it but I think it was accidental dehydration
I haven't been out since 4pm yesterday and their water was dry when I went to get the body. It wasn't even above 55°F today.

I feel like crap. The hen is okay which is why I think it was human error.

Don't beat yourself up, my chicks are still using the chick waterer and they knock it over regularly, we are in the 90's here most days. Yesterday I was out most of the day and came home to knocked over waterer, have no idea when they knocked it over. But they all drank a long time when I refilled it!
