I can't tell I see what I think is a beak but not sure I didn't want to bother them since today is day 21 but because they hadn't started to hatch I needed to checkHas it internally pipped?

Keep an eye on it. You may want to put a safety hole in.I can't tell I see what I think is a beak but not sure I didn't want to bother them since today is day 21 but because they hadn't started to hatch I needed to check
Both of my parents like the ducks far better than chickens![]()
Guess I'll have to figure out how we can keep ducks here when I'm gone for a year.
@honanbm It's looking like there's a good chance you'll get your incubation/hatching thread next season!
NotedThis is excellent news! I've got lots of ducks! Pair of Welsh Harlequins, Cayugas (mainly) and the calls!!! Drake is the Welsh so should be an interesting mix. I will be plopping them under my girls next season to hatch as well.
Build them a reinforced hoop coop and they'll likely need nothing more than a tarp in Winter - I think... though if your area gets super cold, maybe more cover.
Also, they are beyond cute, but I would seriously recommend having an outdoor brooder with a heat pad or heat plate set up for them. Once they hit that two week mark, they get nasty. They spill their water EVERYWHERE, they poop rivers, they destroy the brooder in hours and they stink to the high heavens. Luckily, they grow fast and don't require the brooder for that long. It's the only drawback of ducks but I think that it's entirely worth it!
You have not mentioned that... how very interesting - and convenient that isNoted
I'll have to see what you have next season but boy do Cayuga/Harlequins and Call/Harlequins sound promising
Did I mention I'm obsessed with Cayugas?
Also note ducks have the biggest personalities. They make me laugh all the time. Just a few hours ago two of my drakes about broke their fence down just so they could taste my husbands shoes that he was wearing... lmao. This is excellent news! I've got lots of ducks! So true! I also compare them to tiny gangsters... always starting crap, but you know, they're ducks, so they can't really DO anything! It's hilarious - I agree, I could (and often do) watch them for hours! Also note ducks have the biggest personalities. They make me laugh all the time. I'm excited, too!You have not mentioned that... how very interesting - and convenient that is
I should have pure grey call eggs, the Welsh/Cayuga cross standard ducks and, if you are interested, the Mottled Cochin Bantams.
I had a gorgeous Cayuga drake a few years back, but he was insanely aggressive so we culled him after we hatched a couple batches. Almost all the ducklings were hens out of both groups so at least we have lots of his lovely daughters.
Now I'm all excited for next season!
Woohoo! Washington ducks in Wisconsin! It's a planI'm excited, too!
I think I might get calls from you. Maybe some Cayugas if you'll have some next season. It all depends on available space.
