16 eggs, 3 species, 1 homemade incubator: Will it be done?

True! Besides, what's better than a super cute and funny animal that lays amazing eggs?
The Cayugas laid straight through winter their first year. No light or anything.

On another topic - I found one of my Cayuga hens this morning unable to walk or lift her head. She was perfectly fine yesterday. I felt along her neck and near the base, there was definitely some damage. I tried to get her to drink and eat, but she was done for. Died about ten minutes after I found her. Drakes. I had planned to butcher the second drake that I have this weekend as I am not impressed with him. He's half Indian Runner and half Cayuga. He's beautiful but he just stands on the girls and stomps on them. A true @$$hole.
Now he's given me a good reason to off him. He ought to make good dog food.
I'm sorry:hugs

When I get ducks, I plan on having a drake jail for this very reason. I already have utilized a rooster bachelor pad for this reason too, although I've heard that roosters usually aren't as hard on their girls as drakes are.

They are not - drakes are terrible. If I wasn't hatching eggs every three years, I wouldn't have one at all. Rotten stinkers. I have (well, had) 11 hens to two drakes and they've been rough on the ladies this year. So, the one I like the least is dog food. Ciao, Fontino - ya rapist turd!
My Bantam Cochin roo is a perfect gentleman... he wouldn't dream of treating his harem in such a fashion! He woos them, offers them treats, guards them in the nesting box and is gentle with new ladies coming in. It will be a sad day when I lose Marilyn Manson.

So sorry about your duck :(
On another note, I just bought a bantam white Cochin pair. A frizzled cockerel and smooth pullet.

Thanks - she wasn't a pet, per say, but I hate losing a healthy useful bird to a useless one. Always a bummer...

Show us your new additions!!! Have you had bantam Cochins before??? If not, you are in for a real treat :celebrate
