Maybe split the difference with the pen G, then if you'd still like to stick with the higher dose... Give 0.2 cc twice a day or even 0.3 cc twice a day, rather than 1cc all at once. Gives her a bit of time to process it through her liver rather than having to deal with a large dose all at once. Insulin syringes are great but the Pen G won't really go through a needle smaller than 22 gauge (20 gauge is better), so you'd have to find 1 cc syringes without needles.

At this point, unless the fluid build-up is making breathing difficult, I wouldn't do anything for her, especially if she is dehydrated. Removing fluid can sometimes cause a downspiral, so I think it is wise to not drain any fluid until it becomes a real problem.

Thanks to everyone who is helping me take care of Paris.

I will try giving 0.3cc twice a day. I had been using 20ga needles, but bought a bunch of 22ga today. My syringes have 0.1 increments, so I can dose her with them, no prob. I like the results I have been getting, but was concerned about tissue damage with high volume. Hadn't even thought about the liver damage aspect. Poor girl!

I can buy tubing for feeding tomorrow. Tonight I will just give the Pen G, and electrolytes. If I can get her to take some yogurt, I will try that too.

She is breathing fine, nice and slow, beak closed. She can stand without help now. She is reacting more to noise and light. While this is good, I also want to keep her calm.

Should I be doing the warm baths? I only did that once. Would that help her pass whatever egg mass is in there?

not sure about the baths...if you give the calcium to help contractions..the baths might help..

saline wash might be handy to have...

Sammi, where can I get the liquid calcium? She isn't eating the yogurt. She does swallow the electrolyte solution, but resists. I tried scrambled egg with yogurt, a drip of molasses for flavor, and electrolytes. She was not impressed.

She is regaining strength, but not appetite. I keep hoping one will follow the other. Otherwise, tube feeding per Laura...

You can get liquid calcium at most pharmacies - my grocery store has it too. It comes in a multitude of gross flavours. I prefer "calcium/phosphorous" if you can get it. Calcium/magnesium works but the magnesium tends to relax the muscles, which isn't what you want (you want contractions, not relaxing of muscles!).

If the hen seems to like the baths, they can't hurt (especially if her bum is mucky). However, if they seem to stress her, I'd leave the baths out...

I will try to find calcium tomorrow. I will wait on the baths until I get it. Her fluffy butt is amazingly clean. Although it's not so fluffy right now. She did start to preen tonight, which made me very happy.

It's the most birdlike behavior I've seen in days.

another 0.3cc dose of Pen G this morning, and Glory Hallelujah, she ate 5 blueberries! Finally, we have found a food that she will eat. I will try to give her oatmeal with the next blueberries before I leave for work.

ETA -- thanks for the link, Diana. Her droppings don't look like that, although she is still probably an internal layer. I won't go as far as a hysterectomy. I am a poverty stricken teacher, and can only do what is within my own skill set.

What a coincedence- I finally got mine to eat something last night, also- cream of wheat with cottage cheese.. with blueberries. And yesterday morning her poo was yellowish. So I'm wondering- but at this point, I'm not even sure it's a girl, and if it is a girl, she's not laid yet. I am hoping the yellow was from the vitamins.
