16-mo old BO hen internal layer? update: Paris necropsy pics (graphic)

I had to stop back for something this morning, and she was making contented sounds, and got up and ATE both blueberries, and crumbles. Now, if only I could get her to drink.

Back to work...

are watermelons still affordable? (scoop out a portion of the middle and fill it with crumbles > the red color will encourage her to peck and the crumbles will be moist > both will help hydration)
Be sure to not give ANYthing with salt in it as the ascites (bloated stomach) will worsen with salt. Also keep her warm and in a place free of temperature swings... cold stress of any kind will worsen the ascites.
(((hugs))) good luck

She ate all of the blueberries I left and was up pecking at crumbles. Her comb is completely red again. She had a huge watery poop when I came home, but it looks like egg white with only a little yellow, and a lot of intestinal stuff, green bile but more than that. Probably it is the beginning of her digesting again. More Pen G tonight. Definitely more hopeful.

I think we still have those pricey little seedless watermelons in the grocery store. I can try that. I don't think I'm going to have to tube feed her now. We have turned a good corner.

Thanks, Opa.

It has been a long week, but she is starting to look good. If I can get her to eat enough to have some normal poops, and the swelling goes down, and she passes whatever egg thing is causing all the trouble....okay, maybe we still have some ground to cover.

eating and pooping and making content sounds is a good thing. A very good thing, indeed. So glad things are heading in the right direction!!

Hi Ranchie! Paris is preening like mad this morning, and sucking up the blueberry juice. My bathroom is covered with purple flecks! I will thaw out some more this morning.

She has also eaten a good portion of the crumbles I put out. She is now greeting me when I say "chick-chick" so I think we are in the right direction.

Her abdomen doesn't feel like a water balloon anymore, so I think the ascites is going down on its own. She still has watery poops, but very little yellow, and much more bile green. I don't know if this is a good trend, but I like the lessening of the pale yellow stuff.

I will keep up the Pen G at a rate of 0.3cc every 12 hours until she has had them for 7 days total. She is complaining about the injections now, but I can still handle her by myself.

Can you say RELIEF?

And I bet you look at them purple flecks all over the bathroom, and think:

So glad to hear Paris is on an upward climb. It's like taking care of a baby.
Hee hee, and now, she is going to be the Princess. She is going to expect egs and blueberries for breakfast with you every day. LOL - Is she going to get her own place at the table? Special china? Her own little coffee mug?

LilBizzy!

Steff, you said you went from a 20 gauge to a 22 gauge- what was the reasoning for going to a smaller needle? I wondered, because the Pen-G was really thick when I used it.

ETA, I just checked- the feed store gave me 18 gauge needles! Whoa!

No wonder Plucky objected!
