16-mo old BO hen internal layer? update: Paris necropsy pics (graphic)

Paris has had two doses of Baytril so far. The last dose was 3 hours ago. I also snuck some parrot mash in there. I don't see any improvement at all.

In fact, she seems much worse. Her abdomen has some swelling again (which means fluid from her normal circulation is becoming unavailable for transport of nutrients, waste, and oxygen.) She is breathing softly, but won't even open her eyes now unless I stroke her back. I will be surprised if she lasts the day.

I'm so sorry. It's been said before, but you have went above and beyond in your efforts to help Paris. Also, with your willingness to share every step of this heartbreaking situation you have provided invaluable information for anyone facing similar problems. The amount and detail of which will very likely result in much better care and possibley even a few more positive outcomes for other hens and their caregivers. Thank you, and many hopes that she'll rally for you again.

I'm so sorry. I've been there too much lately, lost two birds in the last month during their molts to crop stasis. Just discovered today what was probably the actual cause; at the bottom of one of the bags of feed, a plasticized bag that was stored in my metal can, a clump of feed with mold on it, but didn't see any till we were dumping the last part of the bag. It came directly from the co-op, who had a flood in their basement and had to dump hundreds of pounds of feed recently, but I bet they thought because the bag was plastic and not paper, it didn't matter that it got wet.

Apparently, the two hens, one a show quality Blue Orp, and the other, a sweet little poufy headed hen we loved, were already depleted by their molts and just could not survive this.

Cyn, so sorry to hear this. We are all really going through it right now.

Hope finding the feed issue will prevent any more problems for you.

I'm so sorry - we've been there. DBF took one of our araucana hens to the vet last year and she was also diagnosed with EYP. They started surgery but once they got in and saw her condition she passed and there was no hope for her.

I truly hope she pulls through; we all know how it is to lose a friend

Ohhhh, *sigh*.

I agree with kittymomma- you have gone above and beyond in your care for Paris. I would really love to see her pull through, if for no other reason than to keep you from feeling sad.

Speckledhen- sorry to hear about your girls. You, also have had your share of ill chickens. Actually, you have had more than your share. I am so sorry you have more losses.

Thanks, Bizzy. Paris just died.

I was hoping I could post pics once she had died of what was happening inside her, but I just don't know if I can do it. DSO is coming over soon, so maybe he can cut her open. I'm a wreck. Darn these birds.
