1602 incubator w/turner set up, now what??

I just went to the local petsmart and bought your basic hygrometer and I'm using the thermometer that came with the incubator so I can't really gauge it, all I can do is check it during the weekend when I'm home to see what the fluctuations are. I guess for now I'll just have to try to get the temps to 99.5 degrees and 45 percent humidity before I try putting eggs in it.. Just a matter of time now to see if I can get to that point. Thanks for the help and I will keep the factors you mentioned in mind...

I don't think the 1602 has a fan. It would be an after market add on if it does. I think the fan turns it into a Hovabator 1588.

Trunkman- it might be worth the money to get a thermometer/hygrometer unit from Walmart. The little mercury thermometers that come with the incubators often aren't all that accurate. I think I paid maybe 15 for a combo unit about a year ago. If you do get one make sure you calibrate it (do a search on here for hygrometer calibration). It will simplify your hatching process to have an accurate temp and humidity.

What are you hatching out?

i added a fan to mine. the cheapo walmart unit does a great job for several hatches and then the moisture gets inside and plays havic with temp readings. about 9.00 bucks at walmart

Mine did not come with a fan but I did buy a basic hygrometer today and stuck it to the incubator wall. Btw, I have a RIR Roo, 3 rir hens, 2 barred rocks, 2 New Hampshire reds, 1 Jersey Giant, 2 austrolorps and one that I think is a white rock. I'm looking forward to seeing what the chicks will look like and what they will look like full grown. I got those breeds for cold hardiness, high egg production and meat production. I'm doing this for my own use not to profit from, so far.
