17th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-Along

Oh my gosh I can participate and I didn't even know it was happening! I set my first ever hatch on 3/13! I needed to test out the process before my ordered hatching eggs arrive in mid April. So I put in 20 BYM. I currently only have 1 Roo (cream legbar) with 28 hens. So I knew going into it that fertilization rates could be lower. I did select eggs based on seeing good fertilization when cracking them. Out of the 20 I had 2 that were not fertilized and 4 that quit early on. I haven't decided if I will candle when the go into lockdown or not. Who am I kidding, I will. :DView attachment 4317972
Hey you! 👋
Welcome to the slippery slope of healthy addiction!🤣🤣💖💞

I'm in with 20 "homegrown" eggs that I set on the 24th. :wee

They're from 4 of my own Icelandic hens, and the new rooster I got a month ago. A bit of a wild-card when it comes to how many are fertilized. I did a sneak-peek earlier today just to be sure that there were, in fact, SOME fertile ones, and it was. But Spoiler-Alert! there will not be 20/20 hatching...

The young dad, and the white in the back is hopefully one of the moms.

Good luck!🤞

"I'm too busy" "I can't" "I'll just hatch in spirit"
:rant
proceeds to fire up the incubator anyways
Love it! I told myself not to participate since I'm starting a classroom hatch Monday that will be a couple days too late. Then I went ahead and set some at home early just for this. I knew I bought a second incubator for good reasons, one at home one at school!!!

Oh thats amazing! I'm so glad people do classroom hatches still!

My two best-ever hens were "Kindergarten Dropouts!"
It's a good excuse to hatch more of my eggs and bring more chicks home :). I have to dear, it's fun and educational for the children.:lau

Well, looks like we are taking 18 into the final stretch. Found a quitter Whiting blue last night. The Moss eggers are still pretty much a mystery and one of the two fibro eggs looked off but not blatantly obvious in need of tossing so I left it... mostly I think I'm just trying to convince myself it's a good egg because I'm really excited for those two chicks....

Now, if I could just get the non-keeper chicks from the last hatch gone and free up the brooder before hatch day that would be great

I had set a few different batches. Here's three batches worth, although about 15 were sold already. Some hatching in two days and more on the 4th for Easter.

There's one on the right side I'm keeping.
