17th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-Along

The last 3 chicks hatched.

Final chick count. 3 Black Tailed Red Marans, 5 Crele Penedesenca, 2 Cream Legbars, and 7 Olive Eggers. . . .

Now the broodies will take their turn hatching . . .

ETA: @Debbie292d Where am I supposed to enter this information? I still have 3 broodies going, should I wait?
I need head counts on what hatched and think I got that from you, but update when more do!

Sorry, I wasn't on the past two days, until now. First we lost our internet, meaning, really lost it in that cellular went out as well. The ice storm caused a lot of damage. Then the power went out this morning. Twelve hours later, they got it fixed.

Here's what hatched via generator. Some are still in the incubator.

Those are some seriously cute babies.

Power failures are my biggest fear when incubating. I had one with my first two hatches. I finally got an incubator that will run off a 12v ATV battery. Oddly enough, the power hasn't gone out while incubating since I got so I haven't had to test that feature  .

I forget who got me onto the Jackery as she changed her username, but I'll find it and tag her. It was hooked up a few weeks ago and sprang into action! It lasted 6 hours, but who would think you'd need something that could handle three incubators and two brooders for more than 6 hours? That's a first for us ever! Power outages are very rare here, and if we get one, it's usually 20 minutes or so.

First time using incubator here. I actually have 10 eggs, miscounted originally when I thought it was 9.
Here's what I found on candling:
No. Breed
1. Mixed Banty. Good- has veins
2. OEGB Bad- Nothing
3. D'Uccle. Blk spot?
4. ? Good- veins
5. ? Good- veins
6. ? ?Dark area in middle, no vns
7. Mixed Banty. Good- veins
8. OEGB. ? Air cell, no veins,nothing
9. Mixed Banty. Good- veins
10. D'Uccle or OEGB Good- veins

3. Has a dark black spot as if it's the eye or body or size of bullseye with dark area around it, but I didn't see any veins. Not sure if even viable. Or maybe it started to develop then stopped?

6. Has dark area in middle. Is in middle of egg, not at top like an air cell. Can't remember if it had air sac. No veins. Is this another that possibly developed then stopped?

8. Has an air cell but no dark area like #6 like something started to develop. It's literally the air cell no veins, dark area or anything. Probably not fertile?

I hope I'm being descriptive enough.
How many days had these been set when you candled them? It sounds like about a week?

Anything you're not sure about, I'd mark it with a pencil and leave it in the incubator another week and candle again. You should be seeing a dark spot with veins. A dark spot with no veins is most likely one that started and died. The next time you candle, they should be very active, and you'll see movement.

As of this morning we are at 6 whiting true blue and the one svart hona x ameraucana....so 7/20 set, 7/18 that went into lockdown
Since no pips on any remaining eggs(and because I have to be gone a few hours today and our youngest cat has become VERY interested in the incubator now that it peeps) moved all but the freshest WTB to the brooder in a secured room, letting the newest kid have a little more dry/fluff time and waiting to see if the moss eggers are lost causes. One WTB egg left too...no pipping....we shall see
