Got my first at 18 weeks. One a day for the first 3 days then went to two a day. Next week I got 3 for 2 days then 4 one day. I was a happy camper. Now we're back to 2 a day. I tell them to remember "an egg a day keeps the colonel away." They all just won't listen.

Sometimes a young bird just starting to lay can be a little frightened by what she feels going on inside her body. Even though you may not have held them much, they still trust you somewhat as you are the one who cares for them and they are familiar with you.

A lot of times, I start my chicks in the house and they don't have shavings. When I move them outside, they get shavings and its a bit frightening to some of them. They jump out of the shavings, right away, and onto my lap or into my hands because I am familiar and the shavings are not. Normally, they would run from me thinking I'm the boogey man and then once they're used to the shavings, they revert back to their normal behavior.

I wouldn't worry about anything being "wrong" just hold/pet them for a little bit and reassure them (I know, they don't understand english) but speak soothingly to them and I believe they will be alright.

MY six oldest chick(3production reds and 3 black sexlin ks) are 20 weeks and on Thursday as we were getting in the suburban to head to shrevport I heard a "new" sound and told mom I thought that was the egg song. I walked over and looked into the next box from outside all that was there was the golfballs and mess (I think my two younger buffs are sleepingin them) but the majority of the flock were under the duck house. Since I had my town shoes on I didn't go in. When we got back that afternoon I changed and went and looked under the duck house... and found a little brown egg.then I was doing g something else and heard another eggsong. Went out and found another slight larger different shade of brown egg. Yesterday I found a slightly larger egg that matched one of the colors. No eggs so far today. However the real kicker is I also have 2 pekin ducks the same age.. one ofthem started laying g at the end of June! The Cayugas (3 of them and they are 19 weeks) one of them started laying this wed. I told the chickens the day I got the du k egg from the younger ducks that they had better get a move on! My other six girls are 17 weeks (4 andalusians and 2 buff orpingtons)

I have three Rhode Island Reds two Easter Egger's and three Brown Leghorns! My reds and easter eggers are seventeen wks old and my leghorns are seven weeks old. Can't wait for the eggs!!!

Woo Hoo, first egg today from my white Jersey Giants. They are 5 months old, so I was not really expecting one! I was so surprised ... I wish I knew which hen laid so I could congratulate her!

Your andalusians may take longer than 20 weeks to lay... just giving you a heads up.
