19 and a half weeks old and still no eggs :( egg countdown anyone??

Alright, I think these girls are still holding out on me

Five days ago, I got my first two eggs, hooray. The next day, nothing, and the next day, one egg. Then nothing again. Today, one egg. I know I really shouldn't be complaining, as it's great to even be getting eggs, but for three 31-wk-olds, that's kind of shameful. Granted, one of them is an EE whose face is still as pale as when she was 9 weeks old, but the other two are toying with me.

And, I've got a couple of Wyandottes who are quickly coming of age (20-22 weeks, I think) They've both been acting kind of odd over the last little while. Just slow, quieter than usual, and they don't care to be around "the group" as much. I don't think they're sick, but I will be keeping an eye on them.

And THEN, I've got a Leghorn whose age I forget, but I think she could be laying within the next month. Her face is getting pretty pink, and she's mighty friendly these days.

Sorry for the ranting

Haha thats funny, holding out on you. My moms chickens just started laying not too long ago and every time I go over there she is like I think they stopped laying for a bit. I'll go out there and find a few eggs. Lol I think they like to mess with their mommies.

chicken math made easy:

<~~ see the little hearts...? so, one chicken gives you 3 little hearts, so 3 chickens...

= your 3 chickens (original idea for a flock), but now you = 9...

= 27 chickens... so you have to tell your hubby that you are still 4 short... for your order for next spring...
uh oh, I found a flaw in the math! I promised hubby I would stick with 3, but got 12. That means 3 chickens = 12 chickens this year........and 48 next year !?!! This now makes me 25 short! ****ruh roh!!**** Time to start planning a bigger coop ;)

and still no egs!

I did have one come running out of the coop yesterday. I heard some weird sqwawking in there and came around the corner of the barn to watch her shoot out of the barn like her tailfeathers were on fire (which they were not) She then ran over to the rest of the flock that was all nestled and resting under their favorite trees. She ran funny though, all low and hunkered to the ground. I tried to catch her to look her over since it looked to me like she was hurt, and she seems OK. She started walking normal and everything.

I've seen the egg squat.......was that an egg dance?????

Wow, that's wierd! Maybe they're worse when theres more than one of them? Daisy's my only Leg...Maybe they get the gang mentality when there's more of them...

Mind if I join the waiting list?

I am also brand new to chickens and jumped in with both feet with some adorable day-old chicks on Mothers Day this year. I've begged hubby for years, and he always said NO! So I kept begging until he got tired of me. I promised I would keep the flock small. I only wanted 3. I fell victim to chicken math early. My justification was this: what if some die? what if a few are roosters? and the ever popular **oooh! that one is soooo cute!!*** I went with a nice little mixed flock of 3 Americaunas, 3 Black Sex-Links, 3 Buff Orpingtons, 2 Production Reds and a Barred Rock my neighbor's daughter calls the zebra chicken. That is a total of 12. So much for 3 ;)

At first, I admit, I had selfish motives: I did it for the eggs - who knew in a matter of days I'd be certifiable! Those little darlings are as spoiled rotton as they would be if they were my kids! (In fact, I think my teenager is getting jealous)

I've read trough this entire topic and I think I have a few that are getting ready for eggs. I have brilliant red combs and a couple are doin' the squat......its got to be any time now, right? Please tell me I am not stalking them for nothing? Hubby thinks I am crazy - especially since I have fallen victim to chicken math again and am planning an order of 6 more in the spring! oh....and a family friend wants to give me her 5....not sure how 3 = 23, but the more the merrier, right???

Hey as long as you have room and your neighbors don't mind, go nuts! If I didn't live in the city...well really that's not such a huge deal as long as the neighbors don't mind it's really if I had a bigger yard....my chicken math would be much more complex

Still....I was originally going to get 3 and ended up with 5 hens and 2 ducks so....even then the MATH got to me....beware the Maaaaaaath....bewaaaare!

I was going to get 4 or 5 and ended up with 7. I live alone and currently get 4 eggs per day (3 haven't started laying, yet). oy! The eggs mount up in a hurry!! I've been lusting over some lavender orps, and would love a wheaten marans or two, but keep telling myself that would be too many for my set up. Seven is the perfect number. Seven is the perfect number. Seven is the perfect number.

Twelve step program, anyone?
