Hopefully you'll get eggs on all of those! The power of positive thinking.....

My girls will be 17 weeks old tomorrow... My first chickens, so it's all very eggciting for me!
Hopefully find some soon:D

Yay! The girls (RIR & BR) are now 22-1/2 weeks old and I received two eggs today... Not sure who laid them since I had the nerve to be at work when they were laid. Bummed that I missed the egg song but thrilled to have some pretty lil eggs. I wonder if ill get more tomorrow!?!?

Congrats! How many girls do you have? And did they all start squatting about the same time?

Several of my girls did lay the day after their first egg. You might get MORE than two tomorrow

Ty Bruce! I only have three girls (Ophelia became Hamelt once s/he began crowing, lol) The only girl to squat for me is "Number 4" - RIR. But I'm guessing that since there were two eggs, she didn't lay both. Junior and Two Slice Hilly are Barred Rocks and have no inclination towards squatting. One egg was smaller than the other and interestingly one has a marked sheen to it while the other is a perfectly matte color. I am completely new to this so don't know if that's typical or not. I was so surprised that the eggs were completely CLEAN (pleasantly surprised, that is). And my girls laid in the nest box with the golf ball in it - wasnt sure if that would really work, lol :) iI have read many of your posts - your opinion and advice have been greatly appreciated!

My RIR's are 24 weeks and still no eggs....

I had essentially resigned myself to waiting til spring for eggs :p (even told the girls it would be ok if i had to wait), but they laid today at 22.5 weeks. Maybe some reverse psychology will work on your girls too? ;) best of luck and I hope you don't have to wait much longer!

I actually have the same problem. I'm 100% sure what kind of egg (color, texture etc) that one of the Faverolles lays because I was able to be present last weekend. It is off white, matte and a little rough. And I've been getting slightly darker, VERY smooth and shiny eggs, no more than one a day so I figured that must be the Partridge Chantecler with the red comb and face. Today I got TWO just like that only slightly different shape. So I don't know if the other Chantecler is laying even though her comb and face aren't red yet or if the other Faverolle lays a similar egg.

I'm going to have to catch Anais (Faverolle) in the act and we all know that won't be easy since I have a job, no hanging around the nest box all day for me.

I was also happily surprised how nice and clean the eggs are. Well except for the ones laid in the coop. More often than not the smooth shiny ones are found on the floor. That was the case today, one on the floor and one in the box. Only a couple of other birds have done that and I think other than the "what the HECK is going on" first egg, its more of a "didn't quite get back to the coop" issue. As they have gotten older, they have also gotten braver. They now meander around the house, a good 250' from the coop in the barn.

I'm glad I have been of help. Being a noob myself I have read so much great info here and happily parrot it back when the opportunity arises because there is no way to accidentally run across it all

I've been off line for 8 days - Internet connection wasn't working. I'm 32 post behind on this thread. My other thread I'm 393 behind!!

I'm now gettin a dozen eggs every other day. Inbetween days I'm getting 8-10 eggs. One of the hens is giving me a AA xtra large egg. Need to find out which one it is.

Hey Bruce - you hit the egg on the button, as it were! Two more eggs yesterday and I just found another. Must have just laid it because it was still warm when I found it. Cool! I still missed the egg song, being Saturday I was able to be out in the coop with the gang for an extended period of time and thought I'd be witness to the laying. Unfortunately, I left for 30minutes to shower and when I returned there it was :). Im thinking there might be another when i get home from the store, hehehe. Have a great weekend !
