19 and a half weeks old and still no eggs :( egg countdown anyone??

Wow, that is a freaky egg! It does look like maybe a failed double yolker? Only one of my girls has laid so far, and out of her three eggs, the first had a small bloodspot, the second was a double yolker, and the third was normal and large. Is yours a new layer?
My RIR was the last to start laying and my Barred was second to last. They started about...maybe 3 weeks ago?

blondiebee, how old are your RIR and BR? I have a BSL and RIR that are 28 weeks old, and I have yet to see an egg. They've both been squatting, so I don't know what the deal is.

Still doesn't help me figure out what it is!

It does look like a solar system though lol
PROTIEN!!! "tastes like chicken!".... no seriously not sure, but the strands that support the yolk in development look like that so your "start of a double yolk" theory sounds right on!

About 20 weeks-ish...my Leghorn started at 16! Hm...well I have heard they can start even older than 28 weeks but that does sound odd for BRs and RIRs as they are supposed to be eggcellent layers. Make sure you are doing these things:

1. Check any places besides your nest boxes that you might suspect as possible egg hiding places (old dog houses, secluded bushes or tall grass) First time layers may not use the nests right off the bat...a lady posted earlier in this thread that she found 50 eggs around a fence post in the grass in her horse pasture!!! She had been wondering when they would EVER lay!
2. make sure your nest boxes have plenty of good, clean nest material and fake eggs in them. Chickens will lay in places that other chickens have laid because they know it must be pretty safe.
3. Make sure they are on layer feed and/or have access to calcium and PLENTY of fresh water. My girls get kitchen scraps, mealworms, and they LOVE yogurt and watermelon
4. Is it hot in Utah? It has been really hot in Boise, and chickens don't tolerate heat well so it may affect their laying.

Good luck! It will happen soon!

I also have to brag for a moment that Daisy, my petite little Leg, layed an egg SO BIG this morning that I couldn't fit it in the egg carton! I couldn't close the lid! And she went on and on about that jumbo egg too!
