it's official, all of my 27 1/2 weeks old girls are laying! Isis finally gave me a light bluish green egg today! so now I am just waiting for Peach, a 21 1/2 week old Bantam cochin x EE... i loved the wait, they are so enjoyable and it was exciting even if a bit disappointing, but once it started... it was only 2 weeks before they all started!

Nice basket of colors!!!!!!

My chicks just payed today! Hooray. Waited six months, long wait!
Hoooray!!!!!!! Congrats!!!!!!

I have a speckled sussex who was hatched in March & I still have yet to get any eggs from her.
I also have a salmon fav, 2 FBCM's & 3 Barnevelders all hatched in May who haven't layed eggs yet either.......any day now girls!!!
They are all from breeders & not from hatcheries, maybe that is why they are taking so long?

After some research and debate, we ate the eggs she laid in the pool. They tasted very nice. We have a pair of Ruane ducks, the smaller version of that breed. They look like large Mallards, and are a French breed. They are such a cute couple. When they wander off, I just have to quack like the female and the male comes to find me, the female right behind him.
We are hoping to have more of this breed and maybe get some other breeds, too. Ducks are so darling -- not quite as much personality as a small flock of turkeys, but easier to keep and plenty of fun to watch.
Ducks are so cool, I love my Runners....I recommend them if you are looking for some different breeds, their upright stance is a hoot! They are sweet as can be too, I open the door and quack at them and they quack back. Turkeys, huh? Always wondered how turkeys would be to keep and how their personalities compare.....

Someone layed this on the coop floor the other day...

Soft-shelled....I'm surprised it didn't break....they've all been laying for a while, but every once in a while there'll be a softie....usually Daisy(WhLeg) or Petrie (BR)
