19 and a half weeks old and still no eggs :( egg countdown anyone??

So jealous over here! I am still buying eggs at the store.

I am hoping that this was a sign of impending eggs today.I was putting my son down for a nap this afternoon and heard LOUD chicken coming from the yard. (His room is the farthest from the yard). I went to the back door and hear BOK BOK BOK BOK BAGAWK! coming from one of the older girls. I jumped for joy thinking it was an egg song.

She kept it up for a few minutes but when I checked the coop/run/yard I couldn't find any eggs. Is she practicing for eggs to come (soon)?

Yes, she's practicing the egg song, you'll likely have eggs very soon! Has she been investigating the nestbox?

I haven't seen her checking it out. But there are two nest boxes with shavings and a golf ball, a brown fake egg and a white fake egg in each. Should I leave the girls locked in the coop/run? I currently leave them in the run (attached to the coop/nest boxes) until about 1 pm and then let them out to forage. She was practicing her egg song about 2. Do hens always lay in the morning or should I be expected eggs at any time of the day?

(sorry if that's a stupid question, these are my first chickens)

I can't get too excited...don't count your eggs before they are laid, right?!

I am new at this, too. Have always had older girls already laying given to me. This batch (now 6 months and counting) is squatting, red wattles, boys chasing. I'm not sure if I heard an egg song from either of those two.......I'm still waiting too.
Most hens I've had will lay in the morning, but it depends on the hen (and probably weather). I think each hen develops her own schedule and preferred place to lay. Be eggsited!

It depends on the hen's laying schedule which takes a week or two to develop. I have one hen that lays me an egg every morning (red star), but my EEs are different. They lay about every 27 to 28 hours, so each day they lay a few hours later than the day before and then they'll skip a day. For example, they'll lay at 9:00 am one day. Then the next day they lay at 12:00, then 3:00, then 6:00, until they skip a day because they won't lay after dark. So the next egg comes first thing the next morning around 8:00 or 9:00 and the whole cycle starts over again. Even though it's a different time every day, it's still a definate schedule so I can say (almost without a doubt) how many eggs I'll get each day from my 3 hens that are laying. I'm still waiting on two who are 27 and 24 weeks old and not showing any signs of maturing at all, so I think I'll be waiting until spring. I hope that helped instead of consusing you more!

Well, I can't participate in this forum any more because:

I found the little egg this morning about 11 when I let the girls out of the coop. It must have been laid yesterday since it was cold and I spotted it near the frost free spigot outside the indoor run about 5 minutes after I let them out. Not sure which girl laid it, I was expecting the Anconas to be first based on the red combs but this egg is a very light brown, not white. I finished their nest box and hopefully they will say "Hey, what a great place to lay eggs!". The girls are all 20 1/2 weeks old and this is on the early side of when I originally expected the first egg.
