I wish I had a early bloomer mine have no combs or wattles and they are 21 weeks old. But good for you if she is a pullet! I hope she gives you lots of beautiful eggies!!

They will! Patience is the key!

BTW: How are you doing?

Hey there Robin! Im alright, been off work on a medical leave for the last month! I love being home but hate the pain and not working! I have been online quite abit but haven't seen too much of ya! Miss talking to ya! I have had 8 eggs so far from Peaches (GSL) and Flower (Ca. white) and one egg from a mystery girl? Its darker colored than Peaches so I know its not hers. Peaches laid her first egg on the floor in the corner all the rest have been in the nest! Im sooooo proud of them but the other needs to help peaches and flower out!LOL Anyway Ive been spending alot of time outside with the girls, haven't seen this much daylight in 10 years of working overnights! and Im burn't to a crisp! LOL ouch it hurts too. Oh yeah don't know if I told ya but out of the salmon fav. eggs I only got two, one girl and one roo! talk about luck!!! Im sooooo happy! All of the chicks are now outside in the coop! Yeah!! Anyway hope to see ya online so I can talk to ya! Sandy Oh yeah Read my post on Egglaying 101 its soo funny you neglected to tell me that they (chicken) hold classes on how to lay eggs! LOL Hope your doing alright, Let me know k.

Would it be possible for you to post a pic of the 'hen/roo' that shows a side shot better (so we can better see if there are saddle feathers?).

I can't tell if there are saddle feathers, but I'm leaning towards both being roo's. I have 2 buff roo's and 2 buff pullets. Mine are actually 19 weeks old this week. Here are a couple of pics to show the differences:

Roo:

(Large combs/waddles for both of my Roo's).

Pullet:

(its not a real good picture of her... she was trying to run past me to get out the door...).

Last, but not least. Is the hen/roo 'just' pulling feathers or is he/she grabbing other pullets by the back of the neck and trying to mate them?

bullwinkle: you're right! they are both roos. Your Buffs are gorgeous! I wish mine were so pretty, but they are hatchery stock, so can't expect much. That's why I am not wanting the roos.

I just saw your post for the first time today. Last summer I had 4 BO chicks and was hoping so very much for at least 1 hen. They matured slower than my other roos and there was one, like yours that just didn't look as macho as the others and several people told me it was a hen.
3 of them chased the girls and crowed alot, the he/hen did neither. Very submissive. I took the others out of the run 1 by 1 as I culled roos and tried to decide the who was going to stay. When I removed the other 3 my mystery was solved. He started chasing girls, crowing and being mean as heck.
At least you've got some ladies and a very pretty flock!

You chicks are very nice looking

My hen looks the same age as yours in teh second picture but less comb and waddle. The roo also looks like mine now.

Not much to say here but one more thing you can check also is the spurs..They will /would have small nubs by now.

I have a chick thats the same age as my Roo.. she has no comb or waddle to speak of , is much smaller and also seems to have stop growing now. Very odd.She was sick for awhile , so that might be it and is not thriving now as a result. She eats, poops and does ok all around but just has stopped growing it seems.
